What was the point of telling Maryland fans this? This could serve no purpose here but as flamebait. I really don't think that was the reason you put it here, so I can only assume that it had more to do with post inflation.
If not, then why didn't you just post all the rankings on the ACC conference forum page?

I'm not really trying to bash Nate -- because I think he's gotten a lot of that unfairly around here.
But, I just disagree with the mass posting style displayed here. And, I think he could have either left out those schools that were "second tier" or posted something else about them. There is really nothing good that's going to come from posting on a school's forum that they are "second-tier" -- even if it's not his own wording.

For Chrissakes, I was trying to stir up some discussion.
I was looking at the site for my own personal reasons (looking at potential colleges), and thought it would stir up some conversation if I posted the ranking of every school in the ACC.
Forget it, I just won't post at all, seems anything I post has something wrong with it, even if it is from such a credible, objective source like US News and WR.

I personally didn't have a problem with the credibility of your post at all. I think it's good info to put on the boards to compare teams and whatnot.
I just don't like seeing the entire front page of the ACC forum filled with one person's posts -- and about the same thing, no less. That's what the conference forum is for. You could have easily ranked the ACC schools in one post in the conference forum (something that Lucy actually did a couple of weeks ago in the Blue Devil thread). That would have been a great post, IMO.
But, for a Maryland, State, Clemson, or FSU fan to read a post on their forum that merely says they are "second-tier" and gives a link for that -- I don't think that adds anything to those forums. I think you'd find that most fans of those schools would agree.
That's just the way I feel about it, though.

Nate: JD does have a good point. When an article/information concerns all or most of the ACC schools, the ACC Conference forum is a splendid place to post it and let everyone discuss in one location...instead of spreading it out among all 9 boards. Better to let a topic get a lot of discussion in one place instead of diluted interest in many places. Just my opinion...

Um, if the thing you explained didn't happen before, I would be inclined to agree. But... it wasn't too long ago that NCTM (not blaming him at all) posted the ACC schedule of every team on their forum. THB also ran an add across every ACC team forum about the World Cup not too long ago, either.
BTW, if flamebait is a problem, then there needs to be some major editing on THB's part. The Duke board gets tons of flamebait.

Well Nate, I must have been out of town when the World Cup thing happened because I missed it. However, NCTM did get reamed about posting the schedule on every board, so why you did the same thing is beyond me...

I also didn't appreciate NCTM's posts (mainly for his use of that icon on every page) and mentioned my opinion on that one as well. I didn't see THB's posts.
I have but one question: Are you admitting that this was flamebait on these four forums? If not, then I'm still going to assume that it was post-padding....

Lucy, I didn't see that NCTM got reamed out, I just saw that he did it. If I had known that this sort of thing was "wrong", I wouldn't have done it.
JD, I'm not admitting it was flamebait. I'm saying that if you consider it flamebait, then there needs to be a whole new criteria for acceptable posts. It wasn't post padding either, I was just scanning that site, thought it would stir up some discussion on relatively inactive boards .

I also don't consider it flamebait, which I mentioned before. Yes, I do think of it as post-padding because there is absolutely no other reason to post "Maryland is a second-tier college" with a link.
Once again, I think you'd have gotten a lot more responses on it if you'd made one post in the ACC conference forum with the rankings. Then, somebody might have responded to Coach Doh's post on the Duke forum where he mentioned the UNC was slipping (I would have, for starters -- but as it is, I'm not going to debate the credibility of UNC's ranking on Duke's forum).

And nate, as far as discussion on the US News rankings, check out this page on the Atlantic League thread now housed in the archives. While most of us were definitely trying to get BlueDevil to stop recopying paragraphs, some honest-to-goodness discussion between posters from many different schools occurred here. This kind of thread & interaction is what makes sports message-boarding great!
