What don't you get? I thought some people here might be interested in the make-up of the BoR seeing that KSU is governed by it.

Noted. Papp used to be on the BoR so that means only good things for us.

Cheers!

That definitely is a plus for you. I knew the board would be heavily UGA, but I'm shocked to see that the regional universities and G-State don't have at least one person each on them. Mercer and Florida have better representation than schools actually governed by the BoR.

Maybe thats a good thing, because they wouldn't be bias to any particulair USG school.

Former Governor Joe Frank Harris once represented GSU on the Board, of course he doesn't now. I believe this is a cyclical thing, sometimes schools get strong representation and then sometimes those schools representation are weaker.

Remeber though the entire the reason the BOR and USG exists is to take the "politics" out of the higher education system. These people are supposed to guide whats best for the state and education system not just their alma matters.

Previous to the BOR and USG the State legislators and governors were in direct control of all funding to the schools and the schools were essetially funded seperately. Having the layer of beuracracy that the BOR and USG minimizes the cronism that existed before.

Point taken, but G-State and the regionals should at least have some representation of on the BoR. It shouldn't be all UGA and GT with a few privates thrown in to boot if this truly going to be a system and not UGA and here merry band of step-sisters.

Perhaps a better system is one in which each school "elects" a representative to the Board. This way each school gets equal representation, and each is on a balanced playing field, as well as providing the bureacratic barrier to poltical favortism.

RE: Board of Regents
KSU Student Government tried last year to get student representation on the board. I know the reason behind that but the feasability of a student sitting on a board of that nature just didn't make too much sense. Now those people are out of office and probably won't push it further.

RE: Board of Regents
Students sitting on the BOR? Wow and I thought our SGA was a bunch of loons.

It seems no matter where you go the SGA's at schools think they can stop the world from spinning, but when it comes to doing what they are supposed to do they have no clue.

I was president of the senate (not the SGA president) at VSU. It was amazing how some of the people in SGA would make seemingly life and death battles over stuff.

I know! I remember covering the GSU SGA for the student newspaper and these people thought that their letter to support HOPE, was going to change the law. They debated over what was to be a simple letter to the Governor in support of the HOPE as if they were of the floor of the State House amending the State Constitution.
