Howdy, I'm a Georgia Military/Valdosta State/UGA alum, and I have been following the KSU football proposals with interest as well as those of G-State.

I'm curious as to what conference KSU would move to for I-AA football. Would the program try for associate membership for football only, or would the entire AD move to a conference that includes football? I also see that your admin is looking long term to something like the Big East. What is your proposed time frame for getting a program established in I-AA prior to moving to I-A football?

I wish y'all had started football back in your D-II days. Y'all could have joined the Gulf South Conference and had some great in-state rivalries with VSU and UWG.

No one knows anything is pretty much everything we know. "10 years away" has been the default answer for the athletic department for at least 4 years now (since I first got to Kennesaw). Long enough for them not to have to be held responsible for their comment. Good times.

The other thread is keeping us updated on an all sports exploratory committee study coming out "this summer." I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks. I really think this is a three horse race at this point. UWG wants to make a move to I-AA, but their programs are faltering somewhat. They can't sit back and let either KSU and G-State get something started as they would then be stuck in a perpetual languish mode.

On a personal note, I'd really love to see KSU or G-State to get a program going. I'd love to see KSU get it going at the I-AA level and create a foothold into GA for something like the Big South Conference thus allowing VSU and UWG to move to I-AA and thus create a natural three-way in-state rivalry. This would also allow for out of conference and playoff match-ups with GaSou. Of course it looks like y'all want to go all the way to I-A. G-State is asserting that I-AA is their goal, but with their being CAA, I don't see it opening anything up for VSU or UWG. G-State would, in my opinion, be more of a threat to the Athens bunch as well as more attractive to the Sunbelt or Big East, but KSU could really have a great I-AA program.

I actually think it is taking so long because Papp wants to go right into D-1a, and I talked to one of my professors today and he echoed that.

Wow. Is that feasible? You'd have to go directly into the Sunbelt for that as it would be almost impossible to meet the I-A requirements of five home games as an independent. Plus, you'd have to have immediate buy in to reach the 15,000 every other year requirements.

The reason that I say the Sunbelt is that I just don't think at this point the Big East would take you in at this stage in the game. They'd be more likely to raid C-USA for an established program.

That'd be freakin great but a LOT is gonna have to happen before that goes down. I'm interested in what they come up with even more now. How the hell did you guys do that in a 4 post thread? lol

if that is true about wanting to go 1A right away..it doesnt surprise me. cuz if you look at what was said in that newspaper article..all of what they were planning, the money it cost..the amout of seats in the stadium were all 1A like. i wonder when their gonna release that study.

Well whatever they are planning, they are aiming high and they want to do it right. By comparison GSU's study showed their most expensive option to get a team going in D-1AA would cost $20million, a figure I heard we are estimating is around $40million.

anyone know anyone on the committee? I'm not even sure who would be on it. Is it alumni assoc, pres office, intercollegiate athletics? All of them? hrm... more questions, less answers.
