Didn't Papa John try to sponsor a different school, they denied him and now Louisville is huge. Miami of Ohio perhaps?

Supposedly Ball State.

RE: Stadium expansion with Yordon Center
John Schattner graduated from BSU in the early 80’s. He supposedly offered to fund a stadium rehab in the early 90’s, during a time when BSU was flourishing in football (MAC champs in 89, 93, and 96 – 2nd in 88, with very good teams in 90 and 91). Schattner eventually donated some $4M for naming rights to Papa John’s Stadium. He resides in Louisville, where he donates regularly to worthy causes, charities, etc.
* John and June Scheumann donated $4M for naming rights to Scheumman Stadium, and the rehab. John is a former Cardinal football player.
* BSU had two other very large donors (John Fisher, former CEO Ball Corp and another large, private donor).
* We had a total of 700 total donors, with suite rentals funding a significant chunk of the rehab.
* David Letterman supposedly offered BSU $1M for naming rights to the new stadium rehab. BSU said naming rights would come with $4 or $5M. I know BSU courted Letterman for some time.
* BSU has very little advertising within the stadium, which would bring us regular income. Now regular income will come from the suites.
* BSU is unable to use any state-funded money for athletic facility rehabs.
* Rehab cost is $13.6M. The $4.5M endzone facility was finished in 2001 (named the Fisher Training Complex, after John Fisher).
We will still have needs after the rehab is finished:
* Indoor practice facility.
* East stands rehab.
(Would be nice to see something like WMU, with our indoor facility behind the east stands)

RE: Stadium expansion with Yordon Center
Hey, the guy who started Jimmy Johns is from Illinois. Maybe we could adopt him? According to Wikipedia, he didn't go to college, but he started in Charleston (EIU) and opened his second shop in Macomb (WIU). Corporate headquarters are now in Champaign (UI). Let's steal him away.

Quote:We can't sell that place out hardly ever and there's more important things to do, like the Indoor Facility.
We couldn't sell out the stadium we had when the east side stands were built. But we built it all the same, just to show 'em.

If Bill Gates funded a stadium addition, it would not be compatible with the older stadium. We would have to close everthing down and start over.

RE: Stadium expansion with Yordon Center
AS stated IPF must be first priotity, renovation of the West side second..
I would much rather see a renovated west side. If done right it would cost a ton but would add so much.
With the football offices, wieght rooms, etc. moving the AAPC, there be quite a bit of free space in the stadium for new and expanded toilet facilities and concessions. Certainly the renovation must inlcude top of the line sky boxes with a state of the art press box. Permanent TV camera locations should also be inlcuded(this should have been included with the AAPC as well, they alwasy have the sissor lif over there)
When people walk into the stadium and feel as if they are in a first class facility(regardless of size) where the accomodations are confortable and welcoming, they are more likely to return.
Last season the ROTC had a potable rock climbing wall in the soccer field tailgate area, and there were other types of kids activities. This should be done for all games (weather permitting). Make one area of tailgating with lots of activities to distract the kids (tailgating can get boring for kids). If the kids have fun the family will return. There could be stuff like:
Rock climbing wall.
Football throw accuracy/speed area
Place kicking area.
Punting area.
40 yard dash.
Kids get their times/distances and then work to improve over the year.

You should see this at YC now. The area right above the players entrace is for the End Zone camera. i do not belive that you will be able to cross over observation deck from outside. You will have to go in and cross over. This is why the plan is slightly different that hte concept drawing.

nothing worse than relying on a sissor lif...
sorry but the zinger was too tempting to resist since I have found myself on the other side frequently......

At least the football team could practice in the field house.

As much as I like Huskie Stadium, that would be fine with me.

It think it's nothing more than on the proverbial wish list at the moment. I'm sure it's coming, but will it be in the next 2-3 years?

Unfortunately, i think it will be a while. Look how long it took to get the Yordon Center paid for and built. To speed up the process, a couple of outstanding seasons or one BCS bowl season would help a lot.

I read that the IPF will be sponsored by some company, although I think gcd may have denounced that myth.

Yeah, i was the one who posted the Sun-Times article that said there was gonna be a corporate sponsorship. Even if there still is, i would not expect the IPF to start getting built until 2010 at the earliest, unless we have those outstanding seasons i was talking about. I'm sure after Boise State played and won a BCS bowl game it helped put their $35 million press box renovation to the forefront.

No way 2010 at the earliest. This initiative will happen in 2008/2009.

Fundraising might occur in 2008-2009, but i don't think we'll see the building going up until 2010 at the earliest. It took forever to get the Yordon Center, why should we think any differently about the IPF? Plus, we may have tapped out many of our alums with the BAVC, Yordon Center, and $150 million campus campaign all in the last 5 years or so.

THE IPF we'll be pretty "cheap" I would guess. It'll definatley be cheaper then the AAPC.
