ETSU's silent opposition was the Athletic Director and the President. Our AD was never for it.

Good luck. I hope you get football. It would be just another embarrasment for ETSU.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
There's an article in a local magazine about KSU Football. The magazine is VERY local. I can't find anything but a place holder on their site but they put together a decent looking product.

Around Mars Hill Magazine is the name of it. I don't have a copy but Biz does. Interesting aspects. Informal talks with Big East about down the road membership after an established program. The other conferences. Annual budget between $1 and $5 million (... wow, is that a ball park figure or what? ...). lol, 10 years either $10 million or $50 million... somewhere around there. ha.

Can't remember the rest of the article but if you're walking around one of those stores in the Acworth, you may be able to find it. The issue with the article has Papp and Waples holding a football infront of KSU Hall so you would definately recognize it. If I get a chance to borrow it, I'll transcribe it onto this post.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
OH, Larger news... it's going to a vote from the student population sometime this semester... There needs to be a lot of positive support for this to happen from the students. As I've said before, not everyone is going to want to pay more school fees for football when it seems like the school has already taken every dollar they have. Even though in reality they have less expenses than the majority of other universities in Georgia.

Any ideas on how to get the word out... Vote Yes, with a ksu football seems like a great idea to start placing around campus.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
Man, I really want a football program here at KSU and I'm willing to do what it takes to help us get it. I hope there are others here like me that feel that way. I think striped crew should have pro football rallies and give away things like the footballs you mentioned above to students. We've come this far so we can't just let a lack of interest keep us from getting a team. We really need to push this and get it on everybody's minds. We should probably stress to the general student population that doesn't follow athletics that we pay significantly less in student athletic fees than other schools our size. All the students have the chance to finally get what they've asked for all these years, we can't just let the opportunity slip.

Well actually KSU pays more than UGA and Tech right now in "Athletic Fees" but those schools get their athletic funding from other places. We're on par with Southern if I recall correctly.

Oh, I didn't know that. Still, I just looked up Georgia's tuition and fees and they're $5,622 for the 2007-2008 year which is quite a bit more than what my Owl Express shows I pay a year. Regardless of what the other schools are paying, do you know how much they are talking about raising athletic fees? I think $50-$100 would be worth it, but I can't speak for the whole student population.

1.2 mil is $35/semester, 2 mil annually is $45/semester for 20,000 students.

KSU is a deal of education.

If students cant handle 45 dollars I will be shocked... One thing that I am left wondering about is why there have been many articles on KSU football in various newspapers including the ajc but not our own school paper? I think a logical step would be to introduce this concept of voting to raise athletic fees well in advance through our paper so people will start to catch on.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
Here's what's going to happen, and I hope it doesn't but here's what's going to happen.

Good intentioned reporter for paper gets assigned the story, researches it well, gets 2 quotable sources, hopefully Papp and Waples and maybe the feasability guy... all great things, publish the story.

Now comes 2 or 3 letters to the editor in response to the article in an absolute attack on football at ksu... second class students, kickbacks, non-education based, wastefulness, overexpenditure, blah blah blah. Asks the students, why should I pay the bill when the community could be asked for the money.

Those two or three mentioned letters get taken as gospel by those who don't want football at KSU and their voice will be louder if we don't plan ahead of time. I guarentee it. They'll be more motivated to persuade than those of us who are willing to fight for it on a moments notice.

Pretty much, I believe the small minority will be louder than the majority. Just depends who comes out and votes, it's everyone's job to make football happen.

RE: Official Football Study Thread
I think everybody at KSU that wants footbal needs to know about what happened when it came to a vote at ETSU. We can't just assume its going to pass, because like you mentioned there is a loud minority that will fight harder against it. Everyone that is profootball needs to know that it is going to be close and that they will be needed.

Do you know if there are any football options left at all if the vote fails, like a non-scholarship program? Its not my first choice, but atleast it can eventually go scholarship.

I have no idea what the vote consists of. Could be a an online survey (like they've done for Dining Hall options) or it could be a live event and you come in and check yes or no with a KSU ID Number. Those would be my guesses.

At some point, Kennesaw State University students will be asked whether or not they will be willing to pay for the football program. Please vote yes and tell your friends to vote yes. This is not an automatic thing. If you do not vote when the time comes, there is a good opportunity that it will get shot down even if the support is there.

Ask ETSU (Atlantic Sun Conference member - same as us) how it feels to be shut down. They had a program and the students voted against it. Now they're struggling to find an identity and are spending more now than when they had a football program.

The design looks good Nick. So now how do we use it to get the word out?

Oh, and have you seen the group on facebook called "Hockey for KSU...Not Football!" The creator apparently wants hockey to be added as an NCAA D-1 sport instead of football. She is also saying that the decision to add football will cut the funding of the hockey team. I'm not exactly sure how that will happen considering the hockey team is a club team and not a varsity sport that would depend on funding from the athletic department. But if this makes enough students mad at KSU it might hurt their opinions of us getting football, though I'm not sure it could do any significant damage. As much as I like to watch our hockey team, who in the south could turn football down in favor of hockey?

I ran my mouth about the hockey team on that board and figured that wouldn't accomplish much so I censored myself and left the group. There isn't another D-I hockey team for miles. I think that, above all else, settles that argument.

The design, I dunno. We'll print banners or something when the time comes. I haven't heard anything but I'm also graduated. I think it's going to be 50/50 of whoever votes. I really think that. Whenever you affect someones wallet, there's going to be some dissenters. Just gotta market it when the time comes.

"We'll print banners or something when the time comes"- Also, T-Shirts with that design would be killer. It wouldnt be to early to get those in the book store right now as far as I am concerned.

I need to see if my personal company can get a license to print KSU logos so I can sell them to the bookstore. I could also get Striped Crew or some other student organization to do it.

That person is an idiot on so many different levels. Intercollegiate sports taking funding away from intramural/club/rec sports? They aren't even funded by the same fee! What an idiot! This could be a PR disaster though if someone doesn't publicly straighten that person out...'cause most folks/college students don't know a thing about funding for education and athletics in this State.

Although if KSU gets a hockey team before it gets a football team I will laugh my ass off ! ! ! ! ! ! ! LOL

Yeah, I went the wrong route and lost appeal for that group of people but someone needs to get the message across. Seems like Touchton had a good word on there saying that there werent any teams to play in the area. There's now more groups like, "Football/Hockey, can't we all get along" and one other one I saw. I didn't see the attack coming from another sports club but it would make sense even if they don't think logical. Honestly, I'm not sure how logical anyone voting against football is. Every time I mention my degree, doesn't matter who it is, I get asked, oh they're getting a football team soon. That's every time.
