Everyone knows Reagan stole that election.

I really like his comments on border security and liked him in "Hunt for Red October" and "Days of Thunder".

You left out "Die Hard 2" and "Baby's Day Out" (he carried that movie). Also, he's got a pretty decent trophy wife:

Reagan's economic policy also led to the recession that partially doomed Bush V 1.0.

Okay, you're partly basing who you want for president on his movie roles? Nice.

And, as far as border security... I really don't think that's the answer... there's NO FEASIBLE WAY to make the borders secure enough for our purposes. The best way to stop this mass influx of cheap labor is to start punishing the people who hire them. End the demand, you end the supply.

RE: Memphis graduate next President of the United States
some of these comments make Endzone2 sound like a scholar.....and im talking to those on both sides.

first of all, reagan is not a top 3 president. top 10, most likely, but he aint breaking through lincoln, washington, and jefferson. he would be in that 6-10 range with wilson, monroe, fdr, and truman.

second of all, clinton isnt a bottom 5 president...once again, you would have to blow up the entire country to break through buchanan, pierce, harding, coolidge, tyler, and fillmore. clinton is probably somewhere close to eisenhower, cleveland, b. harrison, Bush 1 in the mid 20's. as far as bush 2 goes, hell either be a top 10 or a bottom 10 president. there will be no middle ground. hell either be viewed as the second truman(set up the battle plan to win the cold war) or the second fillmore(sold out his electorate and killed his party)

third of all, thompson hasnt said anything of real substance yet, nor has he had to answer any tough questions. let his free pass from the media and his competition melt away and well see how he repsonds. maybe well, maybe not. it would advisable to see how he handles the pressure of a national campaign wth attacks from his right and left before you make a decision about him being your savior.

last and not least, of course clinton is a liar, hes a politician its part of the job description. id hate to break it to you but guiliani(i dont want national id cards for everybody, just people i dont like), h. clinton(i was for state health care before i was against it), romney(double guantanamo?, what else do you want me to believe), obama(am i krag or kronos?),mccain(falwell is evil...oh, wait no he isnt), edwards(i voted for what? the iraq war? no i didnt!). thompson will probably be no different, hel have to pander to the extreme to get the nomination and lie his jowles off to do it.

Average actor at best.......even worse as a politician! We saw the debacle the last time we had an actor as President. You would think that we,as a country, learned our lesson.

The last actor we had as a President was probably one of the top three Presidents in our history. Thompson has more smarts than all the Democrat candidates together. After electing one Clinton, you would think this country learned its lesson.

Clinton was one of the best Presidents we have had in a long time. Just because he did something everyone has thought about (dirty things in the oval office) doesnt make him a bad President. Bad person? Thats up to who is judging but not a bad President.

Thompson is only in this thing because most of the other Republican candidates simply aren't strong ones. Neither are the Democratic candidates. Given the rumors about Gore being a late entry, we may very well end up with an all-TN election.

Sadly, I'm viewing the next president as a placeholder who will barely make a dent in presidential history...mostly because I think so little of most of the candidates in the race so far. They're so damned eager to appease the extreme portions of their base that they all run the risk of alienating the centrists.

RE: Memphis graduate next President of the United States
aTxTiger and homefry make some good points, but i don't agree with all they say. Yes, being a liar is part of a politician's job description, but being a perjurer is not. Clinton's sex antics are meaningless, his lying to to the american people understandable, but when he got on the stand and lied, that's where he crossed the line as far as I am concerned.

True Clinton is not a bottom 5 President, nor a top 5. I think the failures of his administation lie more in what he didn't do than in what he did. he didn't shut down the nuclear program in N Korea when he had the chance. He did not take bin Laden when he had the chance. He did not take proper responses to terrorism when he had the chance, and IMO should take a lot of responsibility for the events of 9-11-01. And for those who want to defend these omissions on being distracted by the Lewinsky case, all he had to do was make an out of court settlement with Paula Jones that would have completely circumvented the need to commit perjury. That he choose perjury as the better option will forever reflect on him.

Reagon, IMO, is a top 5 president, or very close. The best of my lifetime, and I was born in 1945.

Funny how any discussion of current politics always devolves into a Clinton-Reagan pointfest. Thompson's acting neither qualifies him or disqualifies him, and similaries to Reagan are superficial. If similarities ruled, there are lot of similarities between Lincoln and GWB. I know that will outrage some from a certain sector of the political spectrum, but it is true nonetheless. Republicans who took the country into an unpopular war, split their party, suspended certain civil rights, etc. There were many in congress who felt the North couldn't win, but Lincoln "stayed the course".

If you, the most ignorant jerk on the boards, are defending Reagan, then I know I must be right since you're wrong on every thing else.

there are so many things wrong with this post....

A) you hate all democrats. pretty irrational language.
B) you automatically support anyone with the R next to his name. thats a big tent of beliefs and issues. pretty irrational decision
C) you will vote for someone because they went to the U of M? does that include a Democrat, or a Socialist, or a White Supremacist? Becuase we have all of those. 20,000 people and 100,000 alumni is a very, very big tent.

did you even notice the "lol" i placed after that statement...i guess sarcasm can be lost on some.

i tend to vote Republican...but not always...and yes, i'll vote for Fred because he's a Memphis grad...if you don't like it, you're welcome to vote against him to cancel my vote...welcome to America.

anything else you would like to know?

Yeah, we did learn our lesson! We need to get another peanut farmer who can get the interest rate back up in the high teens, double digit inflation and retrieve our hostages from overseas. However, he did do reasonably well with something he was capable of handling, like building low cost housing with other peoples money.

Wow, the people trashing Reagan on here are just a little, ok a lot, loopy. Also, I was not a Clinton voter, and didn't agree with many, ok most, of his policies, but the guy was one of the best politicians ever.

And about Thompson...While I don't plan to vote for any of the dems or rep currently running, I haven't heard anything from him to change that. If he is going to run, I hope he starts laying out who/what he is real soon.

I will be voting for whoever the repubs nominate, but would probably vote Thompson in primary.

the next election tilts the courts one way or the other, probably be atleast 2 SCOTUS nominations coming up, the Dems will only nominate Activist/totalitarian Judges, the Repubs are atleast claiming they will nominate Constructionist judges, this is a big deal.

also, the Dems are suicidal on War on Terror and marxist on the economy. The most important thing is to keep them out of power.
