Looks like it is possible that Dunleavy could be drafted #1 in the 2002 draft! There is no way he will come back if he could go #1. In an article from ESPN.com titled Dunleavy waiting to see how Yao talks pan out by Andy Katz, Katz says...

quote:
He's well aware that the Rockets could take him with the No. 1 pick if the Rockets decide against drafting Yao. The Rockets already have a point guard in Steve Francis and would likely shy away from Dunleavy's teammate, Jay Williams.

Here's the article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/story?id=1391826

Heaven would be if the Rockets draft Wilcox first. Wilcox, other than maybe Wagner will be the best player from this draft. Remember I said it first!

If Yao Ming didn't have half the Chinese government of his butt, The Rockets would not even consider anyone else.

I'm sick of the Yao bust stuff.
Yao Ming will be VERY good.
Wilcox will be very good too, but I would draft JWill, Dunleavy, Caron Butler and Ming all over him.

*Ostertag may be exchanged for the name of any below average NBA center.

My evidence? Going 21-21 from the field in the China championship game. I don't care who he was playing against. Thomas, you can't hit 21 straight layups, no one guarding you!
Also, he has good agility for his size. His jump shot is very good, and has good handles. If he puts on 30 pounds, which wont be hard considering the resources he will have, he will be a VERY good player.

Dunleavy reportedly wants to play for Golden State and expects to be picked by them. A lot of people have pointed out that Dunleavy already has a rich family and good grades and could have had everything a college player could want his last year at Duke, but maybe he doesn't want the same things as others. Duke was rated as the most intolerant school in the nation by Princeton Review when it came to alternative lifestyles, and Dunleavy wants to spend his time with a badly run franchise in San Francisco, so maybe all the rumors are true. Dunleavy was never better than the third option at Duke and probably wouldn't have won NPOY or deserved having his jersey retired anyway, he repeatedly choked from the FT line in crunch time and probably couldn't handle the pressure of actually being guarded. Too bad K turned down Jacobsen then offered Horvath and waited for Dunleavy who was a completely different player averaging half as many PPG as Jacobsen, Duke could have won 3 national titles and should have won the last 4 or 5. Way too many liars at Duke in the last few years, Brand, Avery, Maggette, now Dunleavy, at least be honest about using Duke as an NBA tryout.
