K plays the race card

Krzyzewski was concerned that the exposure given to both situations might have been racially motivated. Both Williams, from Midwest City, Okla., and Dockery, from Chicago, are African-American.

"I look at some of those things where we have to be careful about racially discriminating against people," Krzyzewski said.

"If I see any of that, I'll attack it. I won't sit back. I will attack that. "

Why am i not suprised that K goes to whatever level he wants to defend his questionable recruitng...
Regardless of whether the kids are black or white or purple, one was accused of rape, another is a less than exemplary student. But should not have been accepted by the almighty Duke..

IMO playing the race card is a desperate attempt to justify the unjustifiable. Look at all the black African-American players we have in the ACC. Do they face racism? If anything, the white player is looked at askance until he proves himself. Case in point - Blake, Caner-Medley. K = Johnny Cochrane.

If Coach K wants to attack racism, he might want to start with the fact that a Black Man has almost no chance of being admitted into Duke if he doesn't play sports. 3.9% of their student body COUNTING their athletes, according to the NCAA survey that the media uses to bash Maryland's graduation rates.

That girl that publicly stated that she was raped was black--or doesn't THAT count for anything?

And where was the sanctimonious, utterly hypocrtical Coach K, when the entire Cameron arena was busy engaging in EXACTLY this kind of attitude that he now decries as "racist", towards Maryland player Herman Veal?

It was real cute then. ESPN thought that this particular brand of racism, was the Cameron Crazies crowning glory, in a poll taken two years ago.

It's stuff like this that makes me despise that man.

Here is my favorite line...

"Someone got a hold of his information and all of a sudden he is being perceived as not very intelligent," Krzyzewski said. "I think that's a shame because he has done really well academically on his boards and during his senior year. And I'm not going to tell you his score because it's none of your business."

BWAHAHAHAHA....you aren't going to twll us becasue it still sucked probably!

There are incidents of racial bias still in our society, but this isn't one of them. Williams' situation was given so much attention because he was being accused of a very serious crime and Dockery was given so much attention because everyone labeled him a big risk to qualify, something that(sadly enough) doesn't happen very often with a Duke recruit.

I think Jesse Jackson ears have perked up. I think this is ridiculous. Facts are facts. Dockery's not going to be getting a 4.0 and the Williams was in a room when something happened. People are going to talk and criticize one of the top private schools in the nation for letting them in whether they are black or white or any other race.

Is there no level to which K will not stoop in order to polish up the image of his desperate acts?

Unbelievable.

Shelden was kicked off his high school team, investigated by police, and publicly announced as a rapist by a woman who never recanted her story--and this was all motivated by race?

The McDonald's AA selection committee must all be racists as well.

Nothing could be more damaging towards the goal of having REAL remedies administered against racism, than someone of K's profile making these baseless claims ONLY TO PROTECT THE IMAGE OF HIS PROGRAM.

If he was that worried about it, he should have done what Shelden's high school coach had the guts to do--place the ethical standards of the team higher than the desire to win at all costs.

And now too, anyone who questions Duke admissions policy with regards to a black man is a racist?

Doesn't he think that Dockery's public interview with that reporter in Chicago where he STATED that he had a 1.7 GPA, but that Coach K reportedly told him that I would "graduate even if I left early" has ANYTHING to do with eyebrows being raised about Dockery???

The only RACIST thing going on here, is Coach K ASSUMING that if you question the admissions of a black man to Duke--that you are doing so only because you think he is stupid. The SUBTEXT to K's speech, is FAR more racist and insidious than ANYTHING any of his detractors have said or done.

But then Chefsky is an absolute, bleeding hypocrite of the first rank.

If HE REALLY GAVE A CRAP ABOUT RACISM, would he continue to coach at a school that only makes exceptions for black men to study there, if they can dribble, run, or jump?

Think that this statement is too strong? Look at Duke's ABYSMAL acceptance of black men into it's program from the SAME NCAA study that the Washington Post used 4 months ago to bash Maryland's graduation rates:

chronicle.com/stats/ncaa/..._Type=2631

3.6%.

That's the percentage of black men who are admitted to a university that recruits students from states like North Carolina, Texas, California, and New York that have well over a 25% minority population.

K doesn't care about that however. They could only admit 5 black men per year as far as he's concerned--as long as they admitted his recruiting class.

You grow up in a neighborhood like Juan Dixon's, where your homework hours are spent waiting in a car for your parents to cop heroin--and your grades are 3.8 or higher with 1400 SAT's, you can forget about any rules being bent to compensate for the disparity in backgrounds with other applicants. 3.5? Sorry, we have a nice white kid who had tutors all his life and went to prep school that has a 3.6.

But if you can dish the rock, a 1.7 and a trip to Oak Hill will do just fine thank you and we're so glad that we could "help" an underprivildged kid and don't anyone say anything about it cause if you do you're a racist. Someone accuse you of rape along the way? That's OK too, because we know that no one cares about rape when it's perpetrated by white people--or at least we'll throw that ruse out there wink wink.

Pathetic.

Coach K has once again proven that he is the smarmiest, most mealy mouthed high profile firgure in sports at any level.

The parallels between this story and the way that he has GUTTED the value of a diploma under the pretense of caring about education, are startling.

you are innocent until proven guilty, but that doesn't mean that everyone has to be ignorant.

im glad k thinks SheWill didn't do anything, i really wish that his hs coach would have showed similar support...seeing as how he is the only uninvolved eyewitness, having walked in on the situation. his silence is disturbing, to myself and most likely any informed dook parents.

the girl also said "they know what they did" when she withdrew the charges. sounds like she believes she was violated. SheWill's pseudo-celebrity status put her in a high-pressure situation, which is not surprisingly rejected by a traumatized person.

its also interesting that following the event, williams was no longer a potential nba draft pick. wonder why the nba backed off like that?

k wants to scare the media. if u bring this up i will 'attack' and call u out as a racist. he needs to be that way, because if this story gets mainstream, there will be dook parents that don't like it. they don't know about it, they don't care about dook bball and don't read message boards....k doesn't want them to know about this, there will be a reaction from some of the conservative parents with sheltered daughters if they find out. (not to imply that such concern wouldn't be warranted)

what unc fans say, what maryland fans , state fans or anybody else says is not what is going to cause the problem. what k has to avoid is an internal division. if the information is widely available and internal division will develop.

http://pub119.ezboard.com/faccboardsfrm9.showMessage?topicID=1087.topic

... this is funny stuff coming from K, who is a diehard conservative Republican and Catholic that said he would have refused to go to the White House if Clinton invited him even if he had won a national title during Bill's 8 years. Clinton was extremely popular with blacks for his policies but his alleged indiscretions included consensual sex with an adult intern, does K consider gangbanging a teenage girl that Shelden barely knew in a hotel room with 4 of his friends then getting kicked off the team by the coach that witnessed this and had to break it up, is better? Did Avery's 1.4 GPA and skipping classes happen because he was black, does that make it a nonissue for Duke? If Dockery has a 15 ACT and a 2.3 GPA in the worst school in Chicago or nation, does that mean he's prepared for Duke, and does being black or white make a difference? Did Wojo being a 5'11" Polish former PG have anything at all to do with K hiring him since he had no experience and may be the worst big man coach ever?

That's BS, the coverage of Shelden or Dockery has nothing at all to do with race and everything to do with the fact that any major recruit of any race accused of gang rape and tossed off his team, and any athlete from what's been called the worst school in Chicago that is the least qualified student in the entire country with SAT's 700 points below Duke's 1400 average even after getting the first 400 free, will be scrutinized, especially after committing to a prestigious school and program like Duke. K's trying to cover his own ass because so many people are questioning his principles, so now he suddenly starts talking about race when he couldn't seem to care less in the past when the Crazies made taunts that have been perceived as racist by some. He's very directly stating that he will publicly attack any reporter or anyone else as racist if they question the admission of Shelden or Dockery or even mention the controversies surrounding them, that's a threat against anyone that would hurt K's image by simply pointing out the truth. K the liberal Al Sharpton wannabe, what a joke, yet another embarassment for Duke.
