"Home Grown" terrorists??
I'm listening to NBC talk about these "home grown" terrorists that planned to attack Fort Dix. They called them home grown at least twice, yet when they finally gave their identities, it was "An American Citizen from Jordan, 4 illegal aliens from Yugoslavia, and another from Turkey." They were given away by videoing themselves shouting "God is Great" in Arabic, and talking about Jihad.

HOW are these "home grown"??

My ancestors come from the UK... nobody would refer to me as "an American citizen from England". The guy obviously emigrated from Jordan fairly recently. The citizenship was likely a cover. The other 5 were admittedly "illegal aliens"...

Why are we so afraid to simply call a spade a spade. Sure, not all Middle Easterners are terrorists, and in fact, I suspect that the VAST majority of them are not... but MOST terrorists (at least from the perspective of the US) ARE from the middle east. Why can't we simply say it out loud??

Somebody explain this to me??

you can't profile terrorist by race or any identity that goes against Political Correctness, although if you can do exactly that if its Affirmitive Action your talking about. This is a basic tenet of our National Religion with its PC codes.

Heck, I'm not even worried about profiling. Why do we call these people home grown?? 90% of them are foriegn nationals in this country illegally, and the other, while apparently here legally, and a citizen... is a recent immigrant. Not ONE of them was "grown" here.

do you think that maybe NBC said they were homegrown in make the story "scarier" in order to keep and/or increase viewers? just saying that the MSM is much more interested in $$$$$ than political correctness.

I believe the media has no use for Christianity and to call these raghead cult followers of Islam what they are would be equivalent to elevating Christianity to a religion more to be preferred than Islam. The media isn't about to have that!

From the early reports it sounds like these guys are just stupid. Reminds me of a quote that can apply here.

Quote:I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: "O Lord make my enemies ridiculous." And God granted it.

Yep, its all about ratings.

And we should profile. Its not discrimination, its called good police work. Randomly searching the 90 yr. old grandmother at the airport while allowing the nervous looking young middle eastern man to breeze on through is just stupid. We don't need to harass everyone who fits the broad profile but it makes sense to use our limited security resources wisely.

An FBI agent used the word "homegrown." It's in this Fox article, which also mentions that at least three of the men came to the US (illegally) when they were small children. I assume that's the reason for his choice of words.

I agree. Although those grannies can be pretty violent. ;-)
And yes, the networks say tons of things to make you want to tune in. It's just like soap operas that have something happen at the end of the show to make you want to watch the next episode. I've long ago recognized these things for what they are and refuse to watch regular network news anymore. Too many sound bites and 1-sentence explanations of complex topics, among other things insulting to the intelligence.
