By my count we have given up 60% of our Bill of Rights.

The Conventions of a number of the States having, at the time of adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added, and as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution;

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two-thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States; all or any of which articles, when ratified by three-fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the said Constitution, namely:


Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Although some will disagree, I think Bushies have kept this one.

Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Amendment III
No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Thank God none of us have to quarter a British Soldier

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

We gave up this one in the Patriot Act. and the tapping of our phone calls and the reading of our credit card statements

Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI

what do you mean by "the tapping of our phone calls?" has your phone ever been tapped? have your credit card statements ever been investigated? Please don't use words like 'our' or 'we.' I invite the gov't to tap my cell, i could care less. They aren't gonna hear anything interesting. they can review my credit card bill too. Guess what, i get the feeling the gov't will never do either of those things to me or you.

Just remember when those Bill of Rights were signed into law we had 4 million citizens in bondage and did not allow a majority of the population the right to vote.
I think our country is far better off today then when the Bill of Rights was signed, so I dont see the decline in rights that you seem to want to declare 01-wingedeagle

I heard Bill Mahr talk about it and they have tapped our phones, looked at libary books, and have had a computer run through all of our credit card statements for abnormalities. This is true.

That is fine, but eventually they will get to something that you care about. At that point you may have wished you stopped the government from taking away your inalienable rights at an earlier stage before it came down to what YOU cared about...

As I've stated in the past, I have nothing to hide. They can go through every record ever created about me and will find nothing of any importantce... I do worry about what right they will go after next, however, as once a right goes away you never get it back. Instead the government goes to your next right and tries to take it away.

Um, no. He's saying we've lost 60% of our rights. He did not say, "If we don't do something, we're going to lose them", he said, "By my count we have given up 60% of our Bill of Rights.". One's definitive, the other's suggestive. He made a definitive statement.
