I had a realization the other day. People always give Wake Forest crap for having a terrible football program. But what I realized is that all it takes is one coach. That one coach who takes a bottom feeding program and turns it into a winner. Look at Miami and FSU in th 70's, they were nothing. Look at Purdue before Joe Tiller, they were nothing.

Maybe Grobe is that coach, and maybe he is not. But what I am saying is Wake Forest has the capability of having a football stadium packed with 40,000 fans and titles, all we need is the right guy to get us there.

This is a serious question...don't take it as a stab...

When was the last time Wake had 40,000 at a game? Even against teams like Carolina and FSU, Groves Stadium usually draws about 25-28,000. I can't imagine what the attendance was for games like Duke, Northern Illinois, and Appy State.

Even against Tech in 1999 - on Senior Day and when a bowl bid was on the line - less than 30,000 showed up. What do you guys think it will take to draw 35-40,000 for a game?

First of all, our stadium only holds 31,000. I remember a few games when I was a kid that got up around 34,000 because we packed the hill. Those were usually Carolina games. If we could draw 30,000 a game someday, that would be ideal. But, with our small alumni base and non-support from Winston-Salem, that is only a dream. You do have a good point Oriorip, and I also believe Grobe could be a legendary coach if he decides to stay at Wake for a long time.

JJ- Appy State is always one of our biggest turnouts because thousands of drunken rednecks drive down the mountain for their "Super Bowl" against an ACC opponent. Thank God we are not playing those white trash assh*les anymore.

I am not trying to say we could get 40,000 in that stadium now, or anytime in the near future. First we need to worry about getting 30,000 in that place. But if Grobe does a great job, he could get the local community behind Wake Forest (even if they did not go to Wake). Wake would just need to kind of market it as Winston-Salem's team. If Grobe does his job, and the marketing people do theirs, I think there could be a future when 40,000 could want to get into Groves and we talk of expanding it.

Coach Grobe is The Coach!!!

BPD is correct about the stadium being full for tarhole games. <img border="0" alt="[Puke]" title="" src="graemlins/puke.gif" />

I was so squished on The Hill 2 years ago by carowhina blue that I wrote the Athletic Dept. asking them not to oversell tix and to monitor the admission to The Hill a bit better.

For our (THANKFULLY) last game against crappalachian last year The Hill was more closely monitored and the mountaineers had to fill up the stadium in their ticketed seats.

I've been attending games in W-S since Pic played his last game at Wake. I think the Winston-Salemites have started to show more support over the years. We regularly tail-gate with some RJ Reynolds employees who became fans after getting tix through work! Our fan base is small but I think it's growing in the town and among the folk who have no scholastic or family connections to the school. Heck-I went to Clemson and have remained a loyal Demon Deacon all these years!!
