Alright, Wake students were separated into several categories, and I have always been curious to know what people posting on this board did while at Wake (or any school).

Did you spend most of your time in the library?
Were you Greek? (half the school was, so it is a valid ?) If so what?
What year did you graduate?
Were you stricly a weekend warrior when it came to drinking / partying, did you go out occasionally on the weekdays, or were you out most nights?
What was your major?
Were you in Screamin Deacons?

These are some of the questions you can think of while answering if you choose. I just think it would be interesting. I was a KA and graduated in '98; went out usually a couple weekday nights and all weekends. I was business major. Unfortunately I did not start playing golf until after Wake, so I have a lot of catching up to do. I have named myself the worst putter in the history of golf as last week I had 2 birdie putts and bogied both times.
Anyway, I just thought that people on this board might be less sensitive about this topic than the other one and we could have fun with it.

Class of 2000. Comp Sci major with minors in both Physics and Math. Not Greek. Partied 4 to 5 nights per week for the last 2 years. I was a screamin deamon for one year. I was then one of the original members of the Freakin Deacons, back when it was cool.

El Scorcho was also known for hitting the pipe a bit in his day and made at least one lady at Wake think they were floating. He was a Clemson frat man who sat with me throughout the entire Ice Bowl homecoming this year.

Freshmen (Class of 2005)

Undecided

Not Greek right now (Still deciding if I want to do it next fall, so if anyone has the pros and cons, I would love to hear them)

Party 2-3 days a week, not a huge drinker but love to get trashed before parties

I was a Scremin Deacon this year but was unhappy with the group and am considering a switch to Freakin Deacons and try to revive that, it has great potential. Screamin Deacons stinks cause you have so many fans that dont care that are only in it for the free Duke ticket.

O, good call on skipping out on the Screamin Semens. Personally, I think the majority represent the dork contingent of Wake, and that is a big reason why our fans suck. It might be different if they did not force them to go to the girls' games. Granted, some are not like this, but the majority are.

On going greek or not is really your decision. I was greek, but I also had plenty of great friends who were not. Do not buy the BS of "Oh, well going greek means you had to buy friends." That is such bull**** it makes me sick. Dues go to throwing parties and having fun and to the national organization; it in not way buys you into a friendship circle or makes you obligated to be friends with everyone in the fraternity. Also, those parties that dues pay for are attended by the same idiots who scream that crap.

Make the decision if you see a group of guys that you enjoy being around and you want to be a part of the comradary. Do not join if you do not want to. I enjoyed my time, but that will not make or break your time in college. You will.

LK I saw them, and liked the Freakin Deacons when they started. I think there were only about 15 people or so??? Put the idiots with laptops to shame.

Athletes at Wake butted heads with the wannabe athlete fraternity at Wake. (No need to be offended if someone here is/was a part of that)

Kappa Sig and the F*#king Bags clashed.

El Schorcho is a man who likes to wear many hats and also likes multiples of other things as well, but we will not get into that here. His Clemson ass was seen stumbling across our campus on more than 10 occasions.

Group action at Wake? Hell, there wasn't any action period so you must be fibbing

Anyway, regarding frats, I joined simply because I had friends and the place that they hung out at was the Alpha Squid house where people didn't seem consumed with being Greek, but rather were friendly and laid back. Of course there was the contingent within that was really Greek and gung-ho, but I think that any frat has that mix of folks.

I really don't see much of an advantage in going Greek, even where getting women is concerned. You probably will meet more women in a frat, but that doesn't mean you'll take more home. Besides, Wake women suck (or don't, depending on how you see things). My advice to Orion is if you find a group of guys that you like and they give you the "rush our frat" spiel and you like what you hear, then go for it. If not, the world won't end.

Frats have the advantage of organized parties, but there are often obligations that come with those parties, as well the closer scrutiny of university officials.

As a GDI, you can secure booze just as easily and, if you don't have a **** for an RA, drink it without drawing attention. Heck, we got our freshman RA stoned so we had him in our pockets if he tried to do anything disciplinary in nature to us. I have also known more than a few GDI's to have some great parties that aren't overflowing in size, but that draw a very cool crowd.

So that's all I have to say about that. Bottom line: go with your gut.

Please do not mention that damn "fraternity" to me. Those guys suck. Just give me 5 minutes with a F*#^ing Bag in a soundproof room (please no funny gay jokes needed). They get all the cart path love.

Wormburner, weren't you part of the problem always stealing the ladies? Oh, I think we are going to come up and watch the Friday Wake / Clemson game.

Just a wee bit of thread-mining to liven up the Wake board before tonight's game.

Did you spend most of your time in the library? No
Were you Greek? (half the school was, so it is a valid ?) If so what? Yes, I was in a society
What year did you graduate? A lady doesn't tell her exact age, but it was in the mid-late '80s
Were you stricly a weekend warrior when it came to drinking / partying, did you go out occasionally on the weekdays, or were you out most nights? Depended on what projects I had to work on and when the good fraternity parties were (i.e. Sigma Pi, Theta Chi)...You could usually find me partying on weekends, as well as select Tuesdays & Thursdays
What was your major? History
Were you in Screamin Deacons? I was a member of Deacon Spirits, which pre-dated Screamin' Deacons. We got bussed to Greensboro for games & had a whole section along the floor.
