We have common ground for once. I used to play a lot of Internet poker, mostly at Party Poker. I made the Party Poker Million twice, and placed 15th in the first one, playing against guys like Hellmuth, Ferguson, Carlos Mortenson, TJ, Scotty, Dan Harrington, etc. There were 8 current or former World Champions in that field. I knocked out a bracelet winner. If you're a real poker player, you know what that means. I spent a very interesting two hours with Chris Ferguson on my left and Phil Hellmuth next to him. Last year i played in event 11 at the world Series of Poker and made the money. New year's Eve i won a tournament in Iowa, and I have made the money in major tournament in vegas and other places. Be careful what you wish for mach, you may just get it.

As for the internet ban, it is silly and stupid.

Edit: leaving now for Dallas, game tonight. Someone always wins or loses in the 4 figures in this game. Limit game, but it's not unusual to have $500 in the pot before the flop. If you're ever in Dallas, bring that $1000 and we will let you play for a while. A short while.

Sign up for an account at Poker Stars. We can go head to head. I'm Mr. C from Ohio on there. Oh that would be fun. They say the only good poker players are from Texas or New York jews. Barry Greenstein said that. We have more in common than you or I care to admit.

Supposedly Kyl and the guy from Tennesee were the main people pushing it through with the port security bill. They've cost me some money. I used to clear 500 a month playing real tight limit games on party poker. 3- 6 was my best table. I would get too nervouse playing anything higher. 2-4 I would get a tendency of playing too loose. Get that Stars account.... I'l take it easy on ya. ;-)

Owl,

I would love to play poker with you. My limit would be 5-10. I wouldn't even like that. If it is 500 dollars before the flop ring game 30-60? That's way too much for this hypocritical thievin' teacher ;-) .

fsquid, I think there are five who will still take action from Americans. PokerStars, BoDog, Doyle'sRoom, I forget the others. maybe UltimateBet.
Some poker sites, such as PartyPoker, chose not to take any chances and stopped taking action from people in the US. Others chose to fight or ignore it.

mach - i have been taking a wait and see attitude on this situation. I have asked a lot of my friends here who played internet, and most have gone live exclusively. Lots of underground games here, from 3-6 to $10K buy-in NL. shreveport is about a a 3 hour drive (riverboats) and there is an Indian casino about 1.5 hours north. Others are playing internet on accounts they already had open but are not transferring any money in. I probably would not be in the Spin Room so much if I had the alternative of internet poker.

I enjoy games of all sorts, but I especially like poker. The combination of anaysis and psychology is hard to resist. I've been playing poker since I was 14, but playing hold em at the 5-10 and higher levels against pro and semi-pro competition for about 17-18 years. I am best at limit, but I have done well at no limit too. The new Year's Eve tournament was NL, 124 players, I won it. The WSOP event I was in was the $1500 limit, I placed 41 out of 701. I won my way into that playing a mix of limit and no limit satellites. It was the only event iI entered - I flew in especially for that event, and had no plans to stay longer. Next year I plan to play in 2 oe 3 events, but I have a conflict with e College World Series, so i am still working out my plans. I also like Omaha(the hgame and the city), but I'm not as experienced in that game. A 2-4 game is just to low for me, but i could live with 3-6, if we are at a full table. head's up, something higher.

Tonight's game was a ram 'em, slam 'em 9-18, with live straddles and four bumps. They will put up to 12 players at the table (remember, this is an underground game, so they accomodate as many players as they can). Not unusual for 10 or more players to see the flop, even if the preflop betting is capped ($54). In fact, raising seems to bring in more players. Raise for value here, not to thin. Tight play will not carry the day in this game, but it will limit your losses on a bad night. I won $418 tonight, about average. The guy next to me said he dropped $1800 last week. Looked like he was getting some back tonight.
About half the players tonight were retired, some wealthy, others not. The others included a fast food franchisee, a railroad engineer, a plumber, and tow truck driver. It's not the same bunch all the time - this isn't your Wednesday night with the guys - in fact, we do have some women players there, including from time to time a well known pro.

If I decide to get on PokerStars, i will look you up. Be warned, i have check-raised my mother, i play to win.

I don't remember the name Mr. C, but who knows? We may already have played. I always kept my chat off. I mostly played tournaments, $109 entry or $55, but sometimes smaller. I played a lot of multis.

Heck, if we could keep the conversation to poker, we might even be friends. How long ya been playing and do you get to play live any?

Never played but the ban is absurd.

State lotteries, good! Independent poker websites, bad!

I used to play pokerroom, then I switched to bodog since I could gamble on sports as well. I hadn't played much lately, however.

This ban is absolutely ridiculous. Legislating morality always is stupid, in my opinion. PLEASE STOP PROTECTING ME FROM MYSELF!

it's my conference Owl,

I love poker too. It just ticks me off to no end they're trying to ban it. Freakin nanny state. You know what is funny. I'm a better limit player also, but I love the psychology and bullying of nl. I don't want to give you too much info, but we wouldn't be a good match because you would try to run me over. I would adjust. We ought to try. I was newtractorin06 on party poker. Ohiogranny, and Dogger I think. I had three different accounts. I would play under all three for the monthly bonus. Last night i was playing a 200 dollar nl table. I was at something like 360 dollars. I had 9 10 suited. At turn i hit my nut str8. Guy behind me goes all in. (Chip leader) I call he had trips, he hits his boat on river. I busted out. Kicked the dog and went to bed. That's poker though. I like to play 4 tables at a time and limit the variance. I'm most effective at 50 nl tables, but I tried to make a little money before I went to bed and it cost me. I'll be on tonight. See if you can get an account. I would play up to 100 nl with you. You would become bored and try to run over me. I knew there was something I liked about you.

Were you trap-passing with the nuts, or did he raise your bet? Anyway, TJ once said, "all you can is get your money in with the best of it", and it seems that is what you did. He had 10 outs, you had the rest.

I have other plans tonight, but I will look into it this weekend. I am wary of using the usual electronic methods of buying in, but maybe snail mail for money in as well as money out will work. I notice they all have a disclaimer up which I read as meaning that they cannot guarantee you being able to get your money out, so just keep the minimum bankroll neccesary in your account, as it is all at risk.

That's precisely why I shouldn't play higher limits. A 360 dollar hit is too big of a hit for me. I don't care losing a pot like that at lower limits because I make out in the end. 4 tables for a lower variance. I need to build up my bank roll to withstand a hit like that. To make matters worse I just cashed out a thousand so now I only 200 in my account. Back to the 25 nl tables.

I guess this is for me. I really don't know how to characterize myself, but probably more doyle than sklansky (in NL). I developed my style, whatever it is, primarily through play and talking with other players, but I am currently reading harrington's book. In limit, I like Lee Jones' book, but once again, my style, whatever it is, is mostly experience. On-the-job learning. I think that i can,, will, and should learn all of my life and that there is always more to master. I can and do adjust my style to the situation.
