Question about Islam (American vs. Arab) sort of....
There at some point was (maybe still is) a movement among some black males to turn to Islam. I am talking about the Louis Farrakahn movements. How do these what I consider "American Muslims" fit into the the movement that is taking place with Arabs, etc?

Are they all considered the same in the eyes of the Arabs?

Farrakhan = Nation of Islam. Still around. Semi-related: Not too long ago, I listened to a radio interview of a Muhammad Ali biographer who said that Ali converted to Sunni from Nation of Islam because he didn't believe NOI was true Islam. He supposedly feared for his life for years afterward because the conversion left him vulnerable to NOI retaliation (see Malcolm X).

According to Malcolm X when he went over on his pilgrimage to Mecca, he was treated with respect by all Muslims. I would assume that this would mean Arab Muslims as well. He speifically mention that he was treated well my Muslims who in this country would be considered white. It was the start of the split that he would have with the Nation of Islam.

What a coincidence. I have a guy on my military website that is saying the same thing(NOI to Sunni). Well, not about fearing for his life, mind you.

I have never studied the NOI personally, but from what I gleened from reading the biography of Malcolm X, the teaching were very racist (Islam is the religion for black people, White people are the devil, etc...).

I also think that they suffer from the leaders taking a "Do as I say, not as I do: mentality."

Didn't Malcom X leave the NOI shortly before he was killed? In my experience, I don't think mainstream Muslims consider NOI to be "true muslims". The NOI has a history of anti-semitism (vastly worse than mainstream Muslims). Khalid Muhammed was kicked out by Louis Farrakhan for calling Jews "Bloodsuckers".

Foreign Muslims have exploited the existence of the NOI for their own purposes, while American Muslims can only view the NOI as something that brings them negative publicity. Qadaffi at some point offered up $1 Billion to the NOI.
