strong chance that Orlando Hernandez won't be able to start
NEW YORK -- There's seemingly a strong chance that Orlando Hernandez won't be able to start Wednesday's Game 1 of the Division Series. The Mets veteran right-hander was forced to leave Tuesday afternoon's workout at Shea Stadium because of discomfort in his right calf.
While addressing the media, Mets manager Willie Randolph didn't definitely rule Hernandez to be unavailable. The club is hopeful the discomfort was simply caused by cramping.

With Pedro Martinez already unavailable, the Mets may be forced to call upon Tom Glavine on three days' rest. While completing six scoreless innings against the Nationals on Saturday, the veteran southpaw threw 71 pitches.

If the Mets opt to keep Glavine on schedule to start Game 2, they may choose to have rookie right-hander John Maine start Game 1. He was 2-2 with a 3.81 ERA in five September starts.

mets are doomed

duh. not only that, but i think minaya was an idiot for not picking up a pitcher at the break. i kept telling you that your window of opportunity was small, but he refused to trade milledge. stupid move.

minaya couldnt get Zito, Schmit, Oswalt, or Willis for milledge so whats your point. People dont realize this is a 97 win team without pedro half the season
