Found this interesting:

I'm still confused why the Civic's sales are reltatively low.

Without knowing all the details, it is my understanding that the regular Civic is more cost effective than the Hybrid. The savings in gas take a long time to make up for the initial cost.

Looking at the prices I see that the Toyota Hybrid is about $1500 more expensive than the top end model Camry.
Link
Camry XLE
$24,425
Camry Hybrid
$25,900

And the Honda Hybrid is about $3500 more expensive.
Link Link
Civic EX
$18,460
Civic Hybrid
$22,150

The Camry Hybrid may be more cost effective over the standard gas model than the Civic Hybrid is over its standard model. Just speculation on my part.

That's a good point. I guess I was just thinking that if you want a hybrid, then why buy the Prius over the Civic. But, people's perceptions of "value" can vary.

I wouldn't mind having a hybrid for my personal vehicle (all I do is drive back and forth to work), but the family car is a little different. We need something in the minivan/suv range with our 3 kids. $$$ however is the determining factor in my auto purchases.

I have a Jeep Liberty that I like alot, but i'm thinking of trading it in because it's a gas guzzler. I've looked at the Camrys, and also the various Hondas. I test drove a Ford 500 this past weekend - it was pretty sweet. I'm not sure what i'll end up with yet

i'm not sure; I didn't really think much about fuel efficiency back then. I bought it in 2004 when gas prices were lower, and I didn't have a bad drive to work. I probably wouldn't buy it now, but I still like it. It's been very dependable, and great for tailgating.
