Saddam wanted alliance with Taliban
I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up here yet.

Article

This is a report regarding files that were found in Baghdad and are being researched. This specific one is talking about a notebook that was kept by the Iraqi Intellegence Service. Everyone owes it themselves to read the whole article.

One of the scary things is that Iraq was interested in putting together an "Islamic Conglomorate" if you will with them, Libya and the Taliban. There were also looking to influence the elections in Pakistan to get a radical government in place there to form an alliance with. Scary thought when you consider Pakistan's nuclear capability.

Some of the most interesting things I read were:

Quote:Note the Iraqi official says, ?We hope that they will win and control,? referring to the Taliban. According to this notebook, Iraq has clearly thrown its support to the Taliban, the epicenter of Islamic Jihad. This is a clear indication that Saddam had no problem working with Jihadists outside of Iraq.

Quote:Tahir Jalil Habbush al Tikriti came to public attention in December, 2003 when the Telegraph UK reported Terrorist Behind September 11th Strike was Trained by Saddam.

Details of Atta's visit to the Iraqi capital in the summer of 2001, just weeks before he launched the most devastating terrorist attack in U.S. history, are contained in a top secret memo written to Saddam Hussein, the then Iraqi president, by Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti, the former head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service.

The handwritten memo, a copy of which has been obtained exclusively by the Telegraph, is dated July 1, 2001 and provides a short resume of a three-day "work programme" Atta had undertaken at Abu Nidal's base in Baghdad.

In the memo, Habbush reports that Atta "displayed extraordinary effort" and demonstrated his ability to lead the team that would be "responsible for attacking the targets that we have agreed to destroy".

Soooo you have evidence that the Iraqi Intellegence Notebook this was translated from is a fake? What am I saying of course you do. Lord knows you'd never call something propaganda without proof.

Right?

This whole war in Iraq has been based on propaganda so why would I think this would be any differemt? Especially on a "fair and balanced" news source like Faux. lmfao

Soooo, I guess that's a no, you don't have any proof.

But then you are liberal. And we all know liberals are immune from having to offer proof for anything. 01-wingedeagle

I have all the proof I need when there were no WMD's found and they were no where near building a "nukular" bomb. That was the BS they put out for our invasion and occupation. It was ALL propaganda to get us into Iraq like that right wing nutcase group wanted us to do(forget the name). Of course you still think there are WMD's in Iraq and Saddam flew the planes into the WTC so there really is no trying to point out the TRUTH to you.

Which is none.

Quote:when there were no WMD's found and they were no where near building a "nukular" bomb. That was the BS they put out for our invasion and occupation. It was ALL propaganda to get us into Iraq like that right wing nutcase group wanted us to do(forget the name).

And what does any of this have to do with a translated Iraqi intellegence notebook that says Saddam was seeking a partnership with the Taliban? Oh yeah, nothing at all. And that's why you bring it up. You can't refute it so you deflect and ignore it thinking that will some how magically make it not true. As with Rove you NEED this not to be true. Because if it is then it forces you to question your hatred for Bush and your belief that he lied to get us into Iraq. And we all know you just can't afford to do that.

Quote:Of course you still think there are WMD's in Iraq

I think it's possible they were there. I know we had intellegence that led us, the British, the French, the Germans, the Russians and the UN to believe they were.

Quote:and Saddam flew the planes into the WTC

Nope, have never once thought that. But then I like facts and evidence to support my opinions instead of blind rage and hatred like you liberals.

Quote:so there really is no trying to point out the TRUTH to you.

You have no truth to offer, only rage and illogical hatred.

Tell you what, let's get back on topic. How bout you make the effort to read the article posted. Read it for comprehension, and then come back and state why it's false. That's how reasonable debate works. Granted I know it's a long shot you're even capable of that, but I've always tried to be an optimist.

Do you want the mountains of proof that show US ties to both the Taliban and Saddam?

Sure thing. However anything Pre 1991 or Fall of the Soviet Union is inadmissable. Meaning pictures of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam or US support for the Mujahadine (sp?) against the Soviets won't apply.

Have at it.

It wouldn't really make sense for OBL and Saddam to form and alliance. OBL want's a theocracy that is Muslim. Saddam was a secular dictator installed by the CIA. From other things I've read OBL didn't really like Saddam. I read this in 2003 when we were invading Iraq, I don't have a link to the artilces that spelled this out with the details. This gist was that OBL and Saddam are not buddies and would never work together.

I'm not talking about Bin Laden, I'm talking about the Taliban.

Conventional wisdom was that Saddam was a secular leader with no interest in working with Fundamentalists. This Iraqi Intellegence notebook shows that may not have been true.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. If you haven't read the whole article, it lays out the alliance wasn't only with the Taliban, but with Libya and hopefully Pakistan if a fundamentalist regime could be put in place there. That's truly scary.
