Would you feel more comfortable if the Iranians owned it? Remember, the world changed on 9/11.

Umm no, but I fail to see how Iran and the UAE are to be taken as the same.

Yeah that's not a good example. If you want to be fair, pick a country like Turkey or something.

Have you been to the UAE? Moreover, have you been to a port run by Dubai Ports World?

I have...

I could care less about that, but having a state owned company controlling a national secuity sensitive facility and and economic choke point for the US considering two of the 9/11 hijackers were from the country is not acceptable.

...and again, Richard Reid was from England. Should we stop trade with them?

In another act of brilliance, politicians lose their balls and the port deal falls through.

Even the left leaning Washington Post bashed the politicians on both sides for the demagogery and xenophobic sales pitches they were giving. This is a piss poor business decesion and if the U.S. lurches towards protectionism you can be assured a recession will soon follow.
The UAE will continue to run ports all over the world and the European ports they are aquiring are actually more profitable. We will continue to receive shipments everyday for the UAE where they are in charge of security. While the Democrats and Republicans are busy patting themselves on the back they now need to figure out who is going to pay for the billions needed to improve the infrasturcture at our ports since estimates our trade will double by 2020. If we kick out investors like Dubai Ports World who were willing to spend billions here to improve ports that means the U.S. taxpayer will now get the bill......Brilliant 01-wingedeagle

This whole deal has illuminated the lack of knowledge of the average american. Pathetic and shameful
