No. 3 Florida State Continues Preparations for Saturday's Game Against Virginia

<blockquote>quote:<hr />TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 3 Florida State Seminoles (1-0) continued to prepare for Saturday's home opener against Virginia (0-1) with a two-hour practice Wednesday afternoon. The team went out in shells (shorts and shoulder pads) and spent the first 20 minutes working on punt and kickoff special teams. Much of the remainder of practice was spent with the offense and defense working separately against Cavalier scout teams.

"I thought the attitude was great today," said head coach Bobby Bowden. "Health-wise we're OK. Ray Willis (ankle) is limping a little but he did practice a little bit today. I think by Saturday he'll be ready to go. We had Alex Barron working a little at split tackle and Brett Williams moved over to tight tackle when Ray wasn't in there."

Bowden announced that freshman tailback Lorenzo Booker would redshirt this season.

"We are going to redshirt Lorenzo Booker," said Bowden. "I tried like heck to get him in that game Saturday night, but just couldn't do it. I talked to him today and he's smart enough to realize it was a good idea. I'm just glad it was his idea. A lot of freshmen would waste it. Now if we get a bunch of injuries that might change."

Virginia played 10 true freshmen in the opener against Colorado State after brining in one of the nation's top recruiting classes in the spring. One of those true freshmen, tailback Wali Lundy, led the team with 94 rushing yards on 20 carries.

"I'm not surprised. Virginia is a historical school and the state has got real good athletes," Bowden stated when asked about UVa's recruiting success. "If he (Al Groh) can corral them he'll be able to play with anybody."

Last year in Charlottesville, FSU held a 10-7 lead before breaking out for 33 points in the second half to win by a final of 43-7. Greg Jones rushed for 107 yards in 2001 as the Seminoles piled up a season-high 303 yards on the ground.

"Tomorrow we'll go out in shorts and go over our game plan and that will be it," said Bowden. "We'll have the Hall of Fame banquet Friday night and Warrick Dunn will be here for that."

Thursday's practice is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. Saturday's game against Virginia is set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium and will be televised regionally by ABC.
