Baseball America's
College Top 25

March 4, 2002

DURHAM, N.C.–Stanford held onto the top spot in Baseball America's Top 25 college baseball rankings in the fourth regular-season edition of the poll.

The Cardinal swept a three-game set from Cal Poly to stay ahead of Atlantic Coast Conference powers Clemson and Florida State, which both swept two-game series against in-state rivals from the Southeastern Conference. The Tigers took two from then-No. 5 South Carolina while the Seminoles beat a previously unbeaten Florida team.

The rankings saw plenty of movement, most of it thanks to Houston, which claimed three games at the Kia Bash in Fullerton, Calif., beating Cal State Fullerton, Miami and Southern California. The sweep and a 7-3 record against Top 25 competition thus far vaulted the Cougars 15 spots up to No. 10. The other three Kia participants all fell, with the Hurricanes checking in at No. 11, the Titans at 13 and the Trojans falling all the way out of the rankings with a 6-7 record.

That opened the way for Rutgers and righthander Bobby Brownlie to re-enter the poll. The Scarlet Knights were No. 25 in the preseason and reclaimed that spot after sweeping a series at Old Dominion.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are as of March 3.
