The combined ERAs of the 16 men who have pitched in this World Series is 6.94. And it would be 7.59 if the fabulous Francisco Rodriguez hadn't shown up for work.
There have already been more home runs hit (11) -- in two games -- than were hit in the entire World Series in any of the four recent years in which the Yankees won it.
Reggie Sanders and Barry Bonds alone have accounted for as many home runs in 12 official at-bats (four) as were hit by both teams in a combined 267 at-bats in the whole World Series the last time the Giants won one -- in 1954. So given the evidence, it would be reasonable for any pitcher on either team to start checking seams, fingerprinting leather and asking Bud Selig, "What did you know and when did you know it?"
