Turn to page 9, first letter in Letters to the Editor. Very articulate diatribe against WWLS for putting Jimmy Rome in tape delay hell on the now-inaccessible-in-Norman FM band.
I tried to find the letter on the Gazette's website ( http://www.okgazette.com), but they don't include the letters there. Grrrr.

It was written by a guy, so I KNOW I did not write it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" />
It isn't that I'm not sympathetic to local coverage, nor lack an understanding that local stuff drives local radio. What pisses me off is the fact that after repeated calls to the station inquiring about the weakness of their FM signal, I've come to the conclusion they don't intend to get this "signal booster" to improve it beyond 10 miles (they've given me this line three times in four weeks, four calls). Not only have they apparently lied, they are also cutting off the younger (18-35), more educated audience to which Rome tends to appeal. That audience isn't in Oklahoma City -- its in the college communities of Norman and Stillwater.
Some Oklahomans DO care about sports -- and sports teams -- that play outside of the state line. Rome's show (when it was carried live) was a nice leveller during the day, and a three hour respite from having to listen to Bob "...and your golfer is..." Barry Jr. and Craig "on turrrr" Humphreys babble about high school sports (which are meaningless to me), golf (ditto), and whatever else on the sports pages of The Worst Newspaper In America (the Daily Oklahoman) catches their eyes and drags them fifty feet.
Even so, the better Oklahoma Sooners coverage of late has been on KREF. Their announcers are sometimes a little hard to listen to (but they're way easier to listen to than the utterly grating Al Eschbach), but they cover more OU sports than just football and basketball, and to me the content is somewhat more substantive.
