Per ESPN.com...

Quote:  If the United States is at war with Iraq, Martha Burk told The Washington Post she doesn't want to see The Masters being played at Augusta National Golf Club next month. If the tournament goes on, then Burk says she and the National Council of Women's Organizations still plan to protest the all-male membership at Augusta National.

"If they do not cancel the tournament out of deference to our fighting men and women, we will still be there," Burk told The Post. "The tone will be different than what it might have been. We don't want to marginalize ourselves while the nation's mind is on the war. "We need to point out that what they're doing (with an all-male membership) is wrong. We will still have a presence there if they go on with it. But our methods and our message will be slightly different, depending on national events."

Augusta National spokesman Glenn Greenspan said Monday in a statement that, "planning continues for this year's Masters Tournament, and just like other major sporting events, we will be evaluating the situation as it unfolds. But for Ms. Burk to use the possibility of war as an opportunity to inject herself into the news again is the lowest form of self-promotion." Burk's request to protest at Augusta National's front gate was denied last week. Burk rejected a compromise from Sheriff Ronald Strength that would have allowed her to use another nearby location to protest during the third round of The Masters on April 12 in Augusta, Ga.

She has stepped WAY over the line this time IMO. This is no longer about equal rights (hasn't been for a long time anyway), this is about adding to her 15 minutes of fame.

Howard opposes war in Iraq

JOURNAL STAFF REPORT

Josh Howard, Wake Forest's All-America basketball player, opposes an American attack on Iraq.

Howard expressed his opinion yesterday when a Winston-Salem Journal reporter asked if he was concerned about war disrupting the NCAA Tournament.

"It's crazy, man," Howard said. "I think personally it's Bush, man ... He's doing too much, man. He's mad because they about killed his daddy - what, about five years ago, six years ago? After what happened in 9/11, I felt like - I was telling the guys - like it was at a club, like somebody stole (from) him. He turned around, the first person he seen, he's ready to fight. Basically that's what he's doing, because Saddam had been, like, quiet for a while, and he was over there looking for bin Laden. Now he can't find bin Laden, he's running to Saddam. Now he's ready to kick him out of Iraq. I mean, it's crazy, man.

"Then another thing I think it is, it's all over oil. That's why gas is going up. He's mad because he can't just run all that, too. That's how I feel. I don't think we should go to war, but he's the president."

Howard confirmed that he isn't a Bush fan.

"Not really," he said. "It was fine when Bill Clinton was in the office. I mean, we didn't have no problems or experiences with everybody. It's just crazy. It's just wild, things can change that fast within what - four years? Five years?"

Howard, who attended Hargrave Military Academy before enrolling at Wake Forest, said that the war against Iraq seems inevitable.

"I just wish everything would just hurry up and end, so we can just go on with our lives," Howard said. "I'm the type of person, I hate violence. I just want everything to be happy and fine."

Since you brought that up, I nominate Tyronn Lue of the Wizards.

[quote] "Man, I feel sorry for the people who have to go over there and fight the war," said backup point guard Tyronn Lue. "I feel sorry for their families and friends." What Lue said next, however, is bound to raise a few eyebrows.

Howard should stick to basketball... something he is good at, unlike (evidently) his examination of discussion of politics.

I'm cynical... the cynicism in his quote nearly knocked me over.

As for Ms. Burk - she can shove it that carpet *****ing lesbian bull d***.

I used to kinda like the guy. Not anymore. I'll be pulling hard for him to choke in the NCAA's.

Enjoy Augusta techfan. It's a great city with a great Golf event. Don't let this low-life Martha Burk ruin it for you.
