Philly leads the Giants 1-0 through six and Kevin Millwood has a no-hitter going. Why'd we trade him again?

Salary Dump...... But why did we give him to Philly? And for Johnny Estrada?

Why to Philly? Good question.

Why did we dump him even though we had enough money to keep him?
6 people in a rotation is never good. We gave him enough time to develop, he did, then was injured and was never the same. We dumped him, he's back on track. Just how things go.

Personally, I would've dumped him and Lopez to a team like Texas, Detroit, or Tampa Bay in a way where he could never hurt us, take their draft pick and few rookies, and sign Ivan Rodriguez to a 5 year deal. By adding in Russ Ortiz and Paul Byrd, you come up with a profit for the Braves of $500,000, and extra years with the pitchers.

Ivan Rodriquez - $10,000,000, 1 year
Kevin Millwood - $9,900,000, 1 year
Javy Lopez - about $8,000,000, 1 year(I think, I'm going to have to check on that)
Russ Ortiz and Paul Byrd combined - $7,400,000

he was back on track before this season, he was our best pitcher last season. He's making 10 million and we couldn't afford that but yet we could afford 18 million for Maddux? Maddux is the man don't get me wrong but Millwood has a few more years left on him then does Maddux. Millwood is a free agent at the end of the year though, perhaps he will show some love and come on back.

He was our best pitcher last season? Since when? Tom Glavine was the best, with Moss at a close second. And...we won't need to sign another pitcher, Trey Hodges is developing along with Haracio. 04-cheers

Smoltzie was the best, Hammond second, Glavine in the first half, Millwood in the second half.

Though I'd love to have Milly back, I gotta agree with techfan on this one. Next year we have Ortiz and Hampton coming back along with Horacio and Paul Byrd. Marquis should be ready too.

1. Mike Hampton
2. Russ Ortiz
3. Paul Byrd
4. Horacio Ramirez
5. Jason Marquis

That's what our rotation could look like next year. I have no problem with it.

I hope that Hampton will be good but he has to show it first, he was maybe the worst pitcher in the league last season. Don't get me wrong, if he pitches like he did a few years ago it will be great. Byrd can be good too, hopefully he can put the injuries behind him. Marquis hasn't been nearly as consistant to say that he's going to solve any problems for us. About the best pitcher last season, let's see if I can find any stats for ya.

I can't find full stats yet but Millwood was tied with Glavine with team wins at 18. Millwood IMO was also the most consistant pitcher we had towards the end of the season. Let me see if I can find full stats. Oh and I will agree that Smoltz was the best last year but I was talking starters. Millwood IMO was also more important then Maddux or Glavine because of his age compared to them.

Millwood, 18-8 with a 3.24

Moss 12-6 with a 3.42

Maddux 16-6 with a 2.62, yes better

Glavine 18-11 with a 2.96 but was terrible down the stretch and playoffs

Marquis 8-9 with a 5.04

by the way I do really like Moss, and was upset big time when we lost him. In noway am I trying to say Millwood will ever be better then Maddux or Glavine, just this point in his career he has more years ahead and towards the end of last year he was the best. More consistant for sure.

And I believe Hammond was 7-2 with and 0.95. Smoltz was 3.25 with 55 saves.
