There is a LOT of talk over at James Hale's insiders board about the possibility of Kentucky's Rashaad Carruth transferring to OU. This could be interesting. By the time he would become eligible to play, OU will have lost 2002-03 seniors Quannas White, Hollis Price, Joszef Szendrei, and Ebi Ere (I think). which would mean, if this is all for real, he'd become a prime player. Word has it he is supposedly visiting OU soon -- if not this weekend.
Carruth, a product of Virginia's Oak Hill Academy basketball factory, was a McDonald's All-American, averaged 5.5 points a game but, being behind Tayshaun Prince and Keith Bogans, didn't see as much playing time. Apparently issues about playing time have something to do with Carruth's intentions (?) to transfer. Adam Chiles and Cory Sears have also transferred out of Kentucky this year. Carruth would be the third player to do so (makes you wonder about what's going on there).
Some reports have it that Carruth has some issues, including staging a "non-shooting protest" in a conflict with Tubby Smith over playing time, and then the usual criticism that comes with McD's AAs, blah blah blah. But knowing Kelvin Sampson's zero tolerance for crap, what's to say he couldn't whip this guy into shape? Besides, he still has to sit out a year ... that's a year to look at how they do things at OU and who knows.
Would *you* want Rashaad Carruth in Crimson and Cream?

I think that Carruth would be a fine addition to the Oklahoma roster. Kelven has turned around numerous "problem children" while at Oklahoma and has more than often brought out the best in these players. Price is thought of being the salt of the earth by the Sooners but before he came many said that he may be a "problem child", the same things were said about McGhee, Quanna White, and Ere all who have been very productive at Oklahoma recently with little or no problems at all. Kelven seems to do that for people in general, it is a trait he picked up from his father who is well known for bringing out the best in people as well (who I have had the pleasure of meeting on numerous occasion when I lived in NC, he often attend Pembroke State Bball games).

I wish Oklahoma the best of luck with this kid... From a Kentucky fans prospective he would be a good play if he knew the difference in we or me ball. I hope Coach Sampson can change him out of that because with his shooting reputation he will be a great asset to any team. I wish him the best of luck!

James Hale interviewed Carruth this morning on KREF. The boy seemed pretty stoked to get here.

Good Luck with Rashaad. He was my favorite player while he was at Kentucky. I was prayin he wouldnt leave. But Tubby is one stubborn man. By the time he is eligable to play. He will be one of the best SG's in the nation imo. Boys he can flat out stroke it from deep. I hate to see him go. But I think OK will be a good school for him It will be fun seein him killin Kansas!

I admit I was skeptical at first when I heard Carruth was considering Oklahoma. Now I can't wait to see him play. Of course, by the time he becomes eligible it will be an entirely different team considering that Price, White, Ere, and Szendrei will have used up their eligibility. At least three of those guys make up the core of the Final Four team.
I think Kelvin Sampson has gotten over a hump in a way. I would just as soon skip football season and go right into hoops season again.
--soonerterp, a heathen maybe, but just not that passionate about football.
