That's a shame. He was having a terrific year. Look for the Cubs to make a deal for somebody now, possibly Kenny Lofton.
Quote: Outfielder Corey Patterson, in the midst of a breakout year for the Cubs, has a torn ACL in his left knee, the Cubs announced Monday.
Patterson likely will miss the rest of the season, ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago has reported.
Patterson, who also has torn meniscus in the left knee, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday. The Cubs purchased the contract of outfielder Trenidad Hubbard from Triple-A Iowa and shifted pitcher Will Ohman to the 60-day disabled list.
Patterson was injured running out a grounder during Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Cardinals. He landed awkwardly on first base, but walked off the field under his own power.
In his fourth major league season, all with the Cubs, Patterson is hitting .298 with 13 homers, 55 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He already has more RBI than he did during the entire 2002 season (54).

That's too bad. Hopefully he can recover from it and be back strong in '04.
