calling_the_hogs Wrote:Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile only seats 40,000....meaning that after you count the 2,000-3,000 locals/sponsors that attend the game... each team only had to bring about 18,000-19,000 fans to Mobile. They did that. Good for both of those teams.

The factor though is, SEC teams will send a lot more than 19,000 fans to a bowl game. We played Texas in the 2000 Cotton Bowl, in Dallas, and outnumbered their fans 2 to 1. We sent over 35,000 to Orlando for the Citrus (now Capital One) Bowl in 1998. Georgia fans sent 40,000 to New Orleans, etc., etc.

I understand your argument and your point. I sympathize with it. The fact remains that despite all you say about fan support, the fan bases in the BCS schools are much bigger, and the bowls recognize it and reward those teams more because of it...it fattens the wallets of the bowls themselves. That's a fact.

WPS
So true......

1997 Motor City Bowl
Marshall vs Mississippi
Attendance = 43,340
This was the smallest crowd in MCB history. The two largest were the two games Toledo played in:

2001 MCB
Toledo vs Cincy
52,449

2002 MCB
Toledo vs Boston College
52,911

I got this information directly from the Motor City Bowl website. In the case of this bowl, its wallet was fattened by the MAC against C-USA and the MAC against a Big East team that sent a couple thousand fans.

I don't know 10man. It's a different story when you have to play at the MAC school. Just ask Pittsburgh and Maryland!

rocketfootball Wrote:1991 vs Ohio
Umm, Ohio was 2-8-1 that year!  They even lost to Eastern Michigan!

1993 vs Northern Illinois
Umm, NIU went 4-7 that year and they were not in the MAC then.  They were in the Big West Conference with teams like Arkansas State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Pacific, Louisiana-Lafayette,  and Louisiana Tech.  They didn't play any MAC teams that year, and they only went 3-3 in that sorry a$$ conference!

1997 vs UCF
UCF was not in the MAC at the time, and that was just like their 1st or 2nd season up from I-AA.  They went 5-6 that year, and also lost to Louisiana-Monroe that season.

1997 vs Marshall
Your only game against a decent MAC team.  However, it was Marshall's first year in I-A football too.  Marshall went 10-3 that year.

Since NIU and UCF were not in the MAC at those times you are technically just 2-0 against the MAC.  You played one terrible team and one good team.
Apparently, you guys can't read very well. The standard of football is extremely lower in the MAC, but I wasn't aware that the education level was, too.

For the Ohio game, did I not mention that Ohio was 2-8-1 that year? Can you read? I even stated "Big friggin' deal, we beat a ****** Ohio team". Woohoo! Or something to that effect. I also made mention that my post was certainly in no way meant to be taken as bragging, simply responding to your question. Beating a MAC team is something I'm certainly not going to go bonkers over, trust me. :stupid:

As for NIU, I knew they were in another conference back then, but the fact is, you guys acquired that crappy team, so now you have to deal with their losses.

UCF, again same thing.

And Marshall's first year? Man, you punks have excuses for everything don't you? As high as you talk about Marshall, you'd think they should contend for the NC every year, so what does it matter what year y'all started playing ball with the big boys? They lost, face it.

Spin it however you want, Rocketboy, we are 4-0 against teams that are currently in the MAC. You guys added those crappy teams to an already crappy conference, so deal with it. You are so predictable, too, I knew you were going to use the NIU and UCF thing in your reply. What I didn't expect was that you were that dense to not realize that I even made light of Ohio being 2-8-1. Hell come to think of it, I'd make light of beating any MAC team, then, now, or 15 years from now.

I read your posts. I was giving my thoughts to the whole thing. If we acquire those past seasons, then that means we acquire UCF's victory over Alabama a couple of years ago. Couple that with NIU's victory over 'Bama this year.

Why don't Ole Miss sign a 2 for 1 deal with Toledo? 2 down there and 1 up here in Toledo. I feel pretty confident Toledo would go at least 2-1 in that deal.

You know Toledo has never been able to get an SEC team to play them. I wonder why?

Maybe it is our 6-5 record against BCS teams since 1997.....and 3 of those 5 losses were last year when we were in a rebuilding year.

Or maybe it's because the SEC's schedule is already filled with patsies. Just kidding, bro.

Seriously, though, I would love to see Ole Miss schedule a home and home with Toledo. I would love to come up there and see what all the hubub is about. Suffice it to say, it might just turn out to be a pretty good series. Toledo is one of the two teams in the MAC that I will give props to.

   I will give props to Toledo and Marshall. My argument never was about those two, it was about the rest of your conference. There are a couple of other half-way decent teams in the MAC, but none that could compete weekly in the SEC or any other big conf. Toledo and Marshall would probably make a dent in a BCS conference, though, I will give them that.

Bowling Green's 24-17 loss at No. 4 Ohio State ended a six game winning streak against members of BCS leagues that began in 2001. It included three wins against the Big 12 and two against the Big Ten.

Granted, the big win was two weeks ago at then No. 16 Purdue. The others include a pair over Missouri, and one each against Kansas, Northwestern Temple.

Still, taken together, you can't convince me that Bowling Green would not "compete" (whatever that means) in a BCS league right now. The Falcons totally ripped Kansas and Missouri to shreds last year, and Purdue looks like one of the Big Ten's four best teams right now.

If Bowling Green were in the Big Ten this year, it would qualify for a bowl game. That seems obvious to me.
