Harrell Suspended Indefinitely
by Staff and Wire Reports
April 30, 5:53 PM

CHAPEL HILL - Freshman pitcher Carter Harrell has been suspended indefinitely from the North Carolina baseball team.

According to a team spokesperson, Harrell was still on the team as of Monday morning, although rumors of the impending action surfaced this past weekend.

On Tuesday, UNC coach Mike Fox confirmed the speculation and said the suspension was due to Harrell failing to meet academic requirements.

"All of our players are held to certain academic standards," Fox said. "Unfortunately, Carter has not met those standards and it is important for him to focus on that priority as this semester comes to a close.

"This is a difficult loss for our team at this point in the season, but this program has priorities both on and off the field. I'm confident we'll finish the season strong and continue our push for an ACC championship and a berth in the NCAA Regionals."

Harrell posted a 7-3 record in 17 appearances. He last pitched on April 20, picking up the win in a 12-5 Tar Heel victory over NC State. His earned run average was 3.68.
