Now this is a serious poll.

I hate insurance companies the most. Think about it y'all, when buying insurance you are buying peace-of-mind. Insurance companies are selling a non-commodity, yet you have to have it. In some areas, by legislative fiat one must be insured to the gills. I find each year I am spending more and more on insurance. I've only filed one insurance claim in my life and it was denied. Upon re-filing, it was approved and they paid me 85% of my loss. Wait a minute here, I pay my insurance (all policies) monthly. I don't pay them a percentage of the bill, I pay it all. Why didn't State Farm pay me for all of my loss? What the hell do I pay those jokers for?

Insurance companies have inflated budgets too. They spend more than the average business on advertising. They also do things like sponsor golf events, which is another waste of money. Farm Bureau puts on a golf TOUR event in my area on an annual basis. A company rep. told me off-the-record, that Farm Bureau is going into the red supporting the golf event. The rep said, "screw tort reform, golf is ruining us!"
This rep was especially peeved that he was being forced to retire because he topped out in pay (he's 56 years old). The company decreased pay for all employees as a result of the fledgling golf event.

Anyway, answer the poll question and add comments on why a particular group ticks you off.

I would like to vote for politicians and lawyers! Of course most policitcians are lawyers, so I guess there is no real difference.

Both groups tend to be scum sucking leaches, looking to make the big bucks!

Oh, and Klutz, maybe you should check out your insurance policy, and possibly change it if you don't like the benefits you are receiving!

Yeah, I've done that, Gray. I'm with Nationwide now but I've heard there's the 'ol industry standard of operating procedures when it comes to responding to claims.

Yeah, most politicos are lawyers but look who else is working their ways up the political ladder, MBA's and doctors.

There's no doubt America hates organized religion the most... even the so called "Christians" who are attached to America hate Christianity... that's why they take the label but not the lifestyle.

i hate the liberal media the most. But in response to your insurance problems, why do you think insurance is becoming more and more expensive? Because the of the trial lawyers, like John Edwards. Everybody thinks the Insurance companies have deep pockets, well they don't. The money they have to dish out in lawsuits comes from your premiums. So, in order to pay up, they raise your premiums.

So if you hate the insurance companies, you have to really hate the trial lawyers.

Hey Dio, have you ever heard Chris Rock's standup on insurance?

"It should be called "In case $hit happens". If $hit don't happen, shouldn't I get my money back?"

He's wrong on many levels with some of his jokes, but they are entertaining.

Lawyers are who I'm pissed with. They can defend or sue for anybody and win (which is what they are taught and trained to do) for any stupid reason.

Unfortunately, that is a coherent thought for some, but certainly not everybody.

I don't really have a problem with anything up there but insurance companies. We have smart enough people in this country to come up with a better system.

just because we might be able to have a better system, doesn't mean insurance companies should be blamed.

Why couldn't I vote for more than one category.

I hate professional politicians and the establishment news people, who hang with the politicians on the weekends.

As for lawyers, well I am one. Just the same, I know why we have such a bad reputation, and indeed I tend to share it. But just remember this: If any of y'all get into trouble, get hit by an insured drunk driver, get took by a stockbroker, you'll be looking for the meanest junkyard lawyer dog you can find, looking for the biggest judgment you can get. Greed drives the system, and clients are as and often more greedy than the vultures they hire.

Amen, Wry. I wanted to vote for almost every category.

Yes, greed does drive the system... Could we find a better driver, maybe? Oh, gosh, I just had a pinko-commie thought! Or maybe it's the flu. 03-wink

I think that being a lawyer is a respectable position considering how hard it is to earn their title and the difficulty of the bar exams, etc. But I have a negative image of lawyers at this time. My main reasoning is the Duke Hospital case with Jesica Santillian. A family of illegal aliens are trying to sue Duke Hospital and Dr. Jaggars for mal-practice. They are asking incredible amounts of money and are also trying to get Dr. Jaggars fired and not allow him to practice medicine. With the talent, of modern day lawyers they most likely would win any lawsuit they tried to introduce resulting in the loss of Dr. Jaggars to the medical community. Dr. Jaggar has helped saved hundreds of lives in this country. Helping sue and embarrass people like Dr. Jaggar makes the word "lawyer" taste a little bitter to me.

But it is still a hard job, and normally respectable. No disrespect to you.

Lawyers definitely have a necessary place in this world. We will all need one at some time, but I have a problem with the "ambulance chasers" (Yeah that means you John Edwards).

People complain about Insurance companies, but have you ever thought about how lawyers directly affect the premiums paid. Put it this way, I could get rear ended today, and I could sue the other drivers insurance for basically whatever I want. There is a good chance that I will win a lot more than I truly deserve. Where does the Insurance company get the money to pay my claim? That is right from investment income and other peoples premium payments.

I have always said that if we could control the lawyers, the insurance apparatus would work a whole lot better for all involved.

Everything quoted here is entirely false and misinformed.

I challenge you, Flyingswoosh, to go visit the main office building of any large insurance company. Notice how posh the office is?

Farm Bureau has a campus near my office. Their building is the most modern in town, it is archetecturally aesthetic, it is surrounded by fences, rolling greens, tree-ed groves and ponds. Inside the building are famous pieces of art, which don the lobby. A friendly and courteous security officer guards the elevators and all of the employees are snappy dressers, sporting the latest fashions.
Taking a look at the employee parking lot you see alot of imports, mostly Mercedes, Cadillacs and Lexus SUV's.
Take a trip up to the fourth floor to meet their CEO and I bet he's practicing his putting.

Insurance companies do have deep pockets. And, they throw their money into marketing events like the Golf Classic that they sponsor annually in my area.

Looking back at my income (which rose each years since I was 18) and looking back at my insurance bills, I've spend more on insurance each and every year since. Sometimes, a significant increase. My auto insurance, for example, I've never had a wreck (knock on wood) and I've only had one traffic ticket in the past 15 years (in 1995). My premium has steadily gone up on the pickup truck I've had since 1992. That is just plain wrong!

The whole issue of tort reform and insurance companies upping their rates is a red herring. Insurance companies take in dollars on a daily basis and rarely do they have to pay a claim. It is all straight profit.

Insurance companies are the devil and if Jesus was here, he'd cast that devil out!
