How can it be?

http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | It might have been Ross Perot who first used the expression that America is turning into a nation of "hamburger flippers," in reference to the decline in good paying manufacturing jobs replaced by low-pay service sector jobs.

Here's my question: If millions of high-paying jobs are leaving the country only to be replaced by millions of low-paying jobs, what prediction would you make about the trend in our standard of living? It would have to be in steep decline, but the facts don't square with that. Per capita GDP, the population divided into the value of goods and services produced, is one of the methods used to gauge the standard of living. The historical trend, including today, is a rising American standard of living. In fact, our per capita GDP in 1980 was $21,500 and, as of 2002, it was $36,000

:bang:

This is a simple one though....He's trying to pull one on anyone that he can, and it looks like some are taking it hook, line and sinker.

That "dollar cut in half every 20 years" is just a rule of thumb (learned that from my investment broker)....look up the exact inflation rates if you wish. The 16% decrease that I estimated could be off.....in fact it COULD still be a slight increase - but NOT a 59% increase like he's claiming.....that's what makes it so obvious that he's promoting his agenda.

.....Don't believe everyone just because they have a PhD.

I cannot remember where I saw it, but there was a Russian immigrant being interviewed and he said the "poor" in Russia want to come to America because all the "poor" in the US are fat. He could not understand how someone who was "poor" could get fat. :roflol:

Cheap junk food.

I hope you all don't believe that there a no truely poor people in this country! .....granted, most of our poor are better off than some other countries poor, but they're still poor.

....the quotes around poor in his article suggest that. What does he want? That we ignore our poor, and maybe the problem will go away???

Welcome aboard Bucknut. And before I read your responses I was going to say the article does not adjust for inflation.

I do, however, find the Census Bureau statistics quite comforting. But tell all that to the 40+ year old gas station attendants that are a dime a dozen in my suck arse city.
