did anyone pick the royals last year, no, they were predicted to battle for being the worst team in baseball. Noone in that division is any good, and the tigers have improved a lot, and they have great young pitchers, that will improve even more with the addition of pudge. Finally having some veterans around will help a ton
As I recall, many picked the Royals to be a top two or three team last year. Maybe not the idiots on ESPN, but I know many smart people that knew the Royals would be special.

actually i didn't feel like posting. But i still thought that tysramm could be right. With Pudge everything improves on that team. the royals aren't so amazing to the point that they're clear cut winners.

I think the Tigers are much better, but still far from the best team in the Central. Anything can happen, though.

I don't think so. Not with that rotation and with the middle of the lineup.

Cleveland will not finish behind Detroit this year...

GDawgs... How can you say the Braves are the best in the NL East "until proven otherwise", when a team from their division won the WS last year??

The Marlins were better for a couple of weeks in October. The Braves were better over the 162 game season.

Okay, I don't have a problem with that. I think it could go either way.

Btw, the Indians have a much better future than the Tigers. I look for Cleveland to contend by 2005. Just not this year.

this is a very exciting possibility. if we got maddux, it would change everything. A rotation of schmidt, maddux, jerome, rueter and tomko is very good. A 1-2 combo of schmidt and maddux would be either second or third best in the NL. Also, if this rumor becomes reality, Brower would be able to be exclusively a relief pitcher, which would enhance the bullpen.

Wow. I thought the Giants were strapped financially. Getting Maddux definitely would help.

swoosh, what about Schmidt? Will he be ready for the start of the season? I know he got hurt. The Giants really need him.

Conte says schmidt is going to be ready for the first game, but i'm still worried.

Yeah, I've heard some people say that he'll be ready for the start of the year, but I read somewhere that he could be out as late as the All-Star break. Y'all can ill afford to lose him for any time at all. He's a stud.

it doesn't seem to me that he'll be out until the break, but i could see him missing the first month. And that would be very bad.

I have mixed feelings about them contending. Part of me says they can if their pitching staff comes out and shows the improvement and experience they learned from last year. They need much better defense though. I think their still going to struggle at times on offense, and at times, they'll shine. They other part of me, (about 80 percent) says wait til 2005, which will probably be the case. One can always hope though! haha!

I agree about the Braves and Marlins, but with the Marlins winning the W.S., I think that puts them at the top, until proven otherwise, about 2 months into the season!
