Consider this yet another plea for mod assistance. We need more here.

I'll volunteer, if people will allow it. I know I don't have many friends here, but if people will trust me on fairness, I'll do it. I'm guessing that this would be a little more work than the NHL board?

FYI: I don't want to hear ANY complaints regarding political orientation of the mods. If you want a liberal as a mod --> a liberal needs to grow a pair and volunteer, at which point he/she will be added.

I'd love to volunteer, GTS, but will be in and out of pocket until the Fall.

Perhaps then I will grow a pair (since liberals are, of course, nutless. .) and sign on as pinko commie mod.

Carry on.

I've been nominated -- in fact, I think someone went and gave me the privleges anyway -- but I'm not going to be in the Spin Room dependably.

I'm also not clear on how the AUP is being violated so much. Maybe I'm missing something about the AUP.

I grasp that people should refrain from analogies to Nazi Germany. That's a fine rule. It also cracks me up -- for analogies to Nazi Germany are almost always loopy as hell, and it is a sign of how depraved this area of NCAAbbs has become that we must have such a rule.

Personal attacks against users obviously should be beyond the pale, and those are easy to spot.

But I sense we have another issue here that I'm not quite getting.

Are vicious personal attacks against public figures also beyond the pale?

If so, I'm not sure how comforable I feel enforcing that.

It is virtually impossible to commit libel or slander against public figures like George W. Bush or Bill Clinton for a very good reason -- the public's right debate them outweighs their individual rights to privacy, etc. -- rights they willingly gave up, to a limited extent, by making themselves public figures.

(I haven't studied media law in years, but I think I'm pretty close to the Supreme Court's thinking there).

So, if someone wants to call Bill Clinton a streetwalking crossdressing big nosed crack whore -- and you know you are out there -- then I'm perfectly happy to marshal all the facts I can muster in explaining precisely why Bill Clinton *isn't* a streetwalking crossdressing big nosed crack whore.

I imagine the First Congress had precisely this sort of thing in mind when it drafted the Bill of Rights.

There's a difference between name calling, mud slinging, staunch disagreement and wishing death realted obscenities to a fallen President.

Technically, anything said about anyone else that isn't on these boards is fine. People can call the Prez or former Prez's anything they want. Anyone else in the public is also fine. It's the personal attacks that are against the AUP. Politics does get heated but when someone starts with personal attacks.....is it really still a debate on politics? Or an argument between two people that don't care for one another?

I agree. My main argument is about personal attacks though. When people state something like that about Reagan, IMO, it only shows their true colors.

So I take it you didn't edit my Raygun post, Kev?

Thank gawd. If there's somebody around here who understands what free speech means, I knew it would be you.

Seriously.

Now, who's playing Big Brother?

why don't you just suck it up and follow the rules. you don't have to go and protest every little thing. everyone else tries to follow the rules.
