Really, doesn't the book and the commentary say it all? If you haven't read it, do. For the libs, since you scrupulously avoid genuine education and insight, just pretend Bill Clinton is "hard":

By the way, there is no liberal commentator today who can approach George Will's grasp of history, his thoughtfulness, or his scholarly approach to the issues of significance today (nor how they are reflected in the issues of yesteryear).
Michael Kinsley should pay attention. He could learn so much.

I like George Will a lot, and David Brookes as well. Not a big fan of Bill Safire's writing.
I do think there are liberals who equal George Will in the areas you mention. Tom Friedman probably has the best understanding of the how the world operates of anyone in the news media. Doris Kearns Goodwin is part historian and part commentator, and I think she measures up quite nicely to a George Will.
