That study was done for players who entered between 1992 and 1995. It has been hashed and rehashed. It is so flawed, that only Dukies who want to find a way to make themselves feel better, actually take it seriously. Anyone who goes pro early or transfers counts against your rate, even if they graduate from the other school. Anyone who transfers in and graduates does not count for you either. And....there were found to be mathematical errors in survey. It is completely worthless.

Terp Nation,

It isn't completely worthless. The same criteria is used for each school. The fact is the study isn't totally accurate, but it is GENERALLY accurate and it gives a general place where each school is.

Of course it is flawed, but you sound like a bitter twerp saying it is "completely worthless".

athletics, which was something in the paper that
I came across, not something I was looking for...

The facts were...That More athletes graduate than
the general students. The study discounted the
Service academies and found athletes graduating
rates at 50% and the rest at 35%.

These players are not being recruited to improve
the academic standing of the institution, they are
being recruited to improve the athletic standing.

i.e. To win games, put people in the stands or
gyms and most important of all...To generate money
for the University.

When you have a kid making 25 tackles a game,
scoring 35 points a game in roundball, rushing
for 150 yards a game...the fans are not saying
"What is his GPA?" or "Will he graduate on time?"

They are saying..."Can we keep the dumb a$$ eligible?"

If the next football coach at Duke...won 10 games,
ain't a Dookie in the world, who would give a damn
whether anybody in the whole frickin' school graduated.

En dat's da fact...jack!

Then why even bother to give out diplomas? Why hire professors that have a degree? Why go to class? Just play sports and party all the time!
There's no point in it. Would you want to go to a doctor that didn't have a degree?

Nate. OK, I agree that there is a little something to it. But it is far from telling the real truth about the academic situation. Maryland graduates 80% of its non-transfers/NBA draft early entrants. Thats a far cry from the 14% that study claims. In fact it is just about completely opposite. I guess if Duke doesn't win in a particular season, you'll find some way to toot your own horn. No big deal. Good luck the rest of the football season.

Do you have a link that says that Maryland graduates 80% of its non-transferring, non NBA defecting players? Because all the times I've seen MD's grad rate, it has been low, like SI did grad rates once and Duke was like 90% I think and Maryland was about 40%. IIRC
