The Indians acquired pitcher Andrew Brown on Wednesday, completing last month's trade that sent outfielder Milton Bradley to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On April 4, Cleveland traded the troubled but talented Bradley to the Dodgers for minor league outfielder Franklin Gutierrez and a player to be named -- who is Brown.

Brown, 23, went 1-3 with a 4.02 ERA in eight starts for Double-A Jacksonville. He led the Southern League with 58 strikeouts, including 10 in four innings of his season debut and 13 on April 19 against Greenville. He will report to the Indians' Double-A Akron affiliate.

The 6-foot-6 right-hander pitched just one inning last season before having elbow surgery. He also missed the 2000 season with an elbow injury.

Brown was drafted by Atlanta in the sixth round of the 1999 draft. He was traded to Los Angeles before the 2002 season as part of the deal that sent Gary Sheffield to the Braves.

He went 10-10 with a 4.11 ERA in 2002 at Vero Beach, finishing second in the Florida State League with 129 strikeouts.

Gutierrez is batting .328 with two homers and 16 RBIs in 36 games for the Aeros.

Quote:Andrew Brown has been overpowering at Jacksonville with a 51/9 K/BB in his first 29 innings. That's right, 51 strikeouts in 29 innings. Like Ketchner, Brown began with another organization. He was drafted by the Braves in the sixth round in '99 out of high school in Florida. He came to L.A. in the 2002 Brian Jordan-Odalis Perez deal. He missed almost all of 2003 due to bone chips in his elbow, but is now healthy. Brown has a much better fastball than Ketchner, clocking in at 93-95 mph. He also has a big-breaking curveball, a tight slider and a decent changeup. If his arm holds up and he maintains decent control, he could turn into a solid No. 2 starter, or perhaps an overwhelming relief pitcher.

Poor record and surgeries... crazy K numbers... Could be good, coiuld be bad, we'll see...
