For all those that attack Rush Limbaugh on a daily basis (not on the merits of what he says, but on the fact that he's a conservative)...one cannot deny the man has an uncanny ability to predict the future when it comes to media coverage.

So Bush comes out and denounces ALL 527s - he never mentioned the Swift Boat adds specifically, but included them in his condemnation when asked directly by a reporter:

[I]"That means that ad and every other ad," Bush said when asked if he wanted to bring a stop to commercials by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which accuse Sen. Kerry of lying about his war record in Vietnam. [I]

Let me take this a step further, because I heard the audio of the interview. Bush was speaking in general about all 527s, never mentioning any specific ad. When a female reporter asked "are you including the Swift Boat ads?" Bush replied in the above manner. He then spoke about all the ads attacking both he and Kerry from 527s.

Rush predicted that the media outlets would manipulate this into the headline "Bush condemns Swift Boat ad" virtually ignoring the context of the response and his emphatic denouncement of ALL 527s, which by extension of course included the Swift Boat ads.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give to you our "impartial" news media:

<a href='http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5797164/' target='_blank'>Liars, Liars, Liars</a>

The implication of the headline and article was that Bush specifically condemned the Swift Boat Vets independently of anything else. THIS IS CATEGORICALLY, UNEQUIVOCABLY UNTRUE. To take Bush's response to a direct question and extrapolate it into a headline like NBC has done is so intellectually dishonest, it's worthy of Salon.com.

It's also why Bush needed to stay the course and keep quiet on the issue - you can't trust the media to report things factually and accurately.

Rush was right again...and that's all the proof you'll ever need.

Yet we're the liars and distorters. Ridiculous.

Considering how many people call him a "big, fat idiot", they sure do follow his lead.

He was asked point blank "are you including the Swift Boat Ads", and you're finding a way to say that he didn't condemn the Swift Boat ads? Now who's distorting the truth?

Come on, this is like Republicans saying the Kerry voted against a certain bill without mentioning that someone tried to tack a completely unrelated item to it prior to the vote.

And if you haven't noticed, this Swift Boat ad has been at the top of the public consciousness, not 527s. Perhaps your argument will change that, and that'd be a good thing. But don't call the press a bunch of liars when he answered the question they say he did.

That's very typical of a liberal, Dan...take something out of context, then feign shock when someone calls you on it.

Bush never intended to condemn just the Swift ad - if you heard the soundbite, he made that explicitly clear. He denounced 527s, then said "that ad AND EVERY OTHER AD" produced by a so-called 527.

Selecting out the Swift boat stuff and making that the centerpiece of a headline or article is intellectually dishonest. If roles had been reversed and Kerry had made the statements the President did, the article would've been titled "Kerry denounces 527s, calls for Bush to do the same". They then would've buried the Swift Boat part about 7 paragraphs in.

You know it, and I know it. Period.

Another example, from the Philadelphia Inquirer:

[QUOTE]
The ad is expected to be aired in several key states starting today - including central Pennsylvania - despite President Bush's request yesterday that the "Swifties" cease and desist (although he didn't knock their ad content). And the small ad buy actually understates its potential impact, because the political TV shows will continue to air it and discuss it as a news item.
[QUOTE]

The inference is that because Bush didn't "knock" the ad content, he condones it. I freakin' dare you to say that's not what they intended to assert, because they wouldn't have even mentioned it otherwise.

But in fact, Bush's request that 527s cease and desist IS a knock on their content by definition. If they weren't adversely affecting the process, he wouldn't have asked them to cease and desist.

This is exactly the kind of thing that will kill Kerry in the heartland...if W doesn't overdo it.

This is the kind of momentum W had in 2000, but he bumbled alot (so did Gore).

Kerry's obviously a bumbler. Michael Graham (630 WMAL) reported today that the Swifties received about $1.5 M in NEW money once Kerry started screaming about the ad. If he had let it go, the ad would have faded when the money ran out.

Keep it up Kerry, those red states will be more and more obvious.
