I've thought for some time about coming up with a debate contest/challege/showdown thing. We pick an issue and have two volunteers debate it. Then we have judges who decide who provided the best arguement, not which side we think is right (or left). And we can have individual scores, sort of to determine who is the "best debater/arguer". I don't have any formal rules or guidelines (just a few small ones), but am just wondering if anyone else would be interested in doing this? It could be something either daily, or weekly, or something like that.

Any thoughts?

can we put a word limit on posts? I don't have time to read somebody's 25,000 word dissertation on "Karl Rove is an angry Nazi and the Secret Leader of the Jewish Right".

I was thinking word limit and requirement of something like 3 reliable sources. Just a few ideas I had. We can expand if we want.

This is almost pointless if we don't get some support from some of our leading lefty's. What do ya'll think? You up to the challenge? (Of course, if someone like Kev wants to argue on the other side and earn himself some pts, they can do that, or vice versa).

I wouldn't call myself a "lefty", but I'll debate a conservative over something. Sign me up.

Here is an idea for the debates. Let's take current policies and proposed policies and pick them apart. Let's really get in and do some analysis on this stuff.

You know, we can do No Child Left Behind, then look at the candidates proposals, etc.

Now that would be putting our noggins to good use!
