The Democrats didn't mention him by name either, to the best of my knowledge. Kerry certainly didn't. And Bush will not either. And they shouldn't.
1) We aren't fighting bin Laden. To say we are is to make this look like we are fighting some kind of criminal gang, that once we get the members, we can rest easy. It isn't so. We're fighting a movement that has it's own ideology, and we're fighting that movement, Islamic Jihadism. Bush was too PC to say it, but honestly, its the most honest way of describing our opponent. Not one man, but a militant ideology that calls for our destruction. This is what a lot of Democrats don't understand, and its why the public continues to give the edge to Bush on the issue of fighting terrorism.
2) Putting bin Laden's name in a speech at a national convention of either party, at such a great democratic institution, is insulting. Flat out. And for any of these guys to mention him by name elevates him to a status he doesn't deserve, and I might add, only adds to his completely unwarranted neo-Che Guevara image in some parts of the Muslim (and non-Muslim) world.
I'd be angry if they did mention Ossama bin Laden. We can old his scalp high for all to see once we get him. Until then, lets not grant him a level of legitimacy and prominence he does not deserve.
