"I finally arrived here in 1968.I had empty pockets, but I was full of dreams. The presidential campaign was in full swing. I remember watching the Nixon and Humphrey presidential race on TV. A friend who spoke German and English, translated for me. I heard Humphrey saying things that sounded like socialism which is what I had just left. But then I heard Nixon speak. He was talking about free enterprise, getting government off your back, lowering taxes, and strengthening the military. Listening to Nixon speak sounded more like a breath of fresh air.

I said to my friend, "What party is he?" My friend said, "He's a Republican." I said, "Then I am a Republican!" And I've been a Republican ever since!"

one problem....HUMPHREY AND NIXON NEVER DEBATED!!

Arnold NEVER SAID he saw Humphrey and Nixon debate...he said he saw them SPEAK during the Presidential RACE.

"I heard Humphrey saying things..."
"I heard Nixon speak..."

Doesn't really sound like a debate, now, does it?

I think we need to redefine the word "ignorance" for Dems and liberals. Again, a transparent and pathetic attempt to discredit someone by mischaracterizing what they say. Disgusting.

Believe what you want to believe, but he said the same exact thing in the 2000 convention and the 2003 gubernatorial race. One would have to elude that he is speaking of a presidential debate of which never took place. Other than that the guy can barely speak English (why on Earth is he even governor?). I guess we can forgive him because he didn't even know how to speak any English at the time.

Actually governor Swchwartz has been doing a good job since taking office, he has already reversed Cals economic slide and has worked diligently on numerous issues, I doubt you have any idea of whats currently going on in Cali or any challenges that were awaiting the new gov.

Aw, is poor little liberal mad that Arnold wants nothing to do with the democratic party?

BTW, if you really want me to define "ignorant", perhaps I should talk about Mrs. Ketchup herself.

Especially when she says something, then denies EVER saying it.

Its all who you know and who you do business with. Its the men and women behind AHnold that pull the strings. Certainly the alignment with ChevronTexaco Corp helps a lot.

No matter if its Democrat or Republican we have the best government money can buy.

i really can't understand why you think arnold was talking about a nixon/humphrey debate, when arnold said nothing like that. he said, "I remember watching the Nixon and Humphrey presidential race on TV." we've all watched the bush/kerry race on TV, yet they haven't debated (at least i don't think they have).

Because he said it before....

from an interview at the 2000 RNC...
"When I came to this country, I was sitting in front of the television set, and I watched a debate between Humphrey and Nixon, and I didn't even understand half of it because my English wasn't good enough then. I had a friend of [mine] translating".

Newsweek magazine...
"having watched a 1968 presidential debate for which a friend provided the translation. "[Hubert] Humphrey stood for the government [that] will solve all your problems," Schwarzenegger recalled. "[Richard] Nixon said no, free to choose, let the people decide. So I said to my friend, which party is Nixon? He said Republican. OK, I said, I'm a Republican."

:stupid:

You can try to twist perception, but reality won't budge (Thanks, Neil Peart!). Slamming him for saying something he never said, especially when it was a speech broadcast on national television and published immediately around the world, just makes you look very, very small, uninformed and desperate. Sure, you can try to say he eluded to a debate, but you are alone in that assumption. Not even the most rabid of left-wing commentators have accused him of that.

What, exactly, is the thrust of your point here? That we should all vote for Kerry because Arnold said Nixon debated Humphrey?

Not a chance.

Nice try junior but Newsweek called it a debate, not Arnold.

However adding the extra quote in there to try and make it look like he did was very clever.

Here is the actual exerpt from the Newsweek article.

Quote:In fact, his long-range plan to succeed in every sphere of human endeavor has always included politics. He was a Republican before he was a citizen, having watched a 1968 presidential debate for which a friend provided the translation. "[Hubert] Humphrey stood for the government [that] will solve all your problems," Schwarzenegger recalled. "[Richard] Nix-on said no, free to choose, let the people decide. So I said to my friend, which party is Nixon? He said, Republican. OK, I said, I'm a Republican."

So so far we have what Arnold said, and then what you try to lie about him saying, justifying it with, "we all know what he meant".

Actually we all do, except you, who wants to lie about it.

You know if you spent as much time trying to make the world a better place as you do posting lies and falsehoods on this board you might actually do some good for humanity.

Might.

My point is that he is BS, like all other politicians. Keep on defending a man who confessed to admiring and dreaming about dictators and that says foreign born citizens should be eligible for president. Something that Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) would love to be changed as he proposed this truly Liberal amendment to Congress. Closet Liberals might finally get their wish of a true fuhrer in the White House. The truth is, whether you accept it or not, that our sovereign nation is being compromised for something greater outside of our own borders. Good night and may God show you the light.

Speaking as a conservative, do us a favor and don't be one. You just make us look bad.

No need trying to convince the ignorant. He said it even before the convention in an interview in 2000 RNC, to Bill O'Reilly in 2001, and in 1993 during an interview on his flop 'Last Action Hero'. His story of his choice flows well and had been mentioned time and time again. Further historical inaccuracies were proclaimed in his speech that Austria was socialist when in fact the country was run by a conservative government headed by People's Party Chancellor Josef Klaus, a staunch Roman Catholic and a sharp critic of both the Socialists and the Communists ruling in countries across the Iron Curtain. Afterall the guys a foreign-born movie star/politician, not a historian. His speech was filled with flaws, maybe he didn't say things the right way, especially since he can barely hold a comprehensible conversation, but all politicians need to be able to speak clearly - including the president and those seeking the office - to prevent any possible misunderstanding that may be created. Not doing so just adds more wood to the fire. But whatever believe what you want to believe, I got my biases you guys have yours.

I just have a few questions to you guys though. Would you favor amending the Constitution to allow foreign-born citizens to run for President after they lived here for 20 years? If that passes would you also support the abolishment of our second amendment - the right to bear arms? How about an amendment making it manditory for all citizens to serve in the military, denying them their right to choose, and contradicting the thirteenth amendment - slavery and involuntary servitude?

No.

Now a question for you...................Do you walk to school or carry your lunch?
