Santa Claus 'a Democrat', Ebenezer Scrooge, Grinch 'Republicans', New Zogby Poll Finds

(Note: The following information is to be published in December's issue of Zogby's Real America newsletter. For more facts and information like this from Zogby International, check out the latest issue of Zogby's Real America newsletter. Visit <a href='http://www.zogby.com/products/index.cfm' target='_blank'>http://www.zogby.com/products/index.cfm</a> for details.)

A plurality of likely voters say that longtime Christmas fixture Santa Claus is a Democrat, a new Zogby International poll reveals. The same survey found voters even more sure of the political leanings of two other Christmas icons: Ebenezer Scrooge and the Grinch are likely Republicans. The interactive poll of 2562 likely voters was conducted from Wednesday to Friday (December 1 to 3, 2004). The margin of error is +/- 2.0 percentage points.

More than one-in-four respondents (27%) said <span style='color:red'>Santa Claus</span> is a <span style='color:blue'>Democrat</span>, while another 21% believed him to be a political independent. Those saying "Republican" trailed at 16%. Another 6% believe he is a member of the left-wing Green Party.

Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly Charles Dickens character in A Christmas Carol, was overwhelmingly picked as a Republican by 43% of respondents-twice the 21% who believed him to be a Democrat. Only 4% said he is an independent, while 8% thought the small businessman was a good fit for the limited-government, anti-tax Libertarian Party.

The curmudgeonly <span style='color:green'>Grinch</span> , subject of Dr. Seuss' classic The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, was considered a likely Republican by 31% in the poll-more than the 24% who believed him a Democrat. Another 7% said the Grinch was a likely Green-possibly more in reference to his complexion than his politics. The reclusive Grinch was thought a Libertarian by 6%.

Zogby International conducted online interviews of 2562 likely voters chosen at random nationwide. The interactive survey was conducted from Wednesday, December 1 through Friday, December 3, 2004. The margin of error is +/-2.0 percentage points. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender, and 2004 presidential vote to more accurately reflect the voting population. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.

Merry Christmas to you <span style='color:Blue'>Left Wing Commies</span> and <span style='color:red'>right wing nut jobs.</span> 03-razz

I would contend that. He takes from others, the elves, and gives away, the kids.

If he were a Republican, he'd actually do the work himself and give away, Ie. charity.

Here's a little to back up my assertion:

<a href='http://www.catalogueforphilanthropy.org/cfp/db/generosity.php?year=2004' target='_blank'>http://www.catalogueforphilanthropy.org/cf...y.php?year=2004</a>

...and Michelle Malkin's "color-coded" version of the same research:

<a href='http://www.michellemalkin.com/archives/000839.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.michellemalkin.com/archives/000839.htm</a>

With that said, can't we contend that Republicans are more apt to give away what they own and Democrats are more apt to give away what someone else owns, Ie. to get a vote?

actually i can prove that oklahoma is the last outpost of the Southern Democrat.

Well CNN decided not to put the Registered Voters list on the site but i can assure you that Democrats in Oklahoma outnumber the Repubs. its like 1.5 mil dems to 800,000 repubs. So if that tells you what kind of democrats we have in oklahoma.

I think you, in general, have conservative Democrats like Zell Miller anyway. 03-wink

If you will look at the map, it shows the most liberal of Democratic states to be the least charitable.

You don't like Zell Miller? Don't listen to the hype. I'm IN Georgia. He IS a Democrat. It's these college kids and North-Easterners, as well as Californians, trying to redefine what a Democrat is. It didn't work, did it? They might as well call themselves what they are, Socialists.

BTW, show me one prominant Democrat of the past, EXcluding that dictator-loving Carter, that would subject our country to the United Nations.

If Santa was a Democrat, then the elves would have their own union. So would the reindeer.
