Just wondering if any of you have a collection.
I started collecting when I was a kid. My Uncle gave me some cards he had when he was younger....but none worth any money.
Also, when I was a kid, one of my cousins came over to the house and we were looking at my collection. He was interested, so I gave him some of my cards that I had doubles or more of just to get him started. I can remember giving him a couple of different Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Pete Rose, Willie Stargell and Nolan Ryan cards. Ryan started his career in California's system if I'm not mistaken. (Maybe Mets).
Anyway, we made up a board game using dice and we put together our own stadiums. We had home and away games and we placed the cards in the batters box and on the bases just as if they were actually playing. We started our own League with el-cheapo prizes, but it was a big deal to us. We also used to put them in the spokes of our bikes so they would make noise when we rode. When I stored them, I separated them by teams and put rubber bands around them and put them in a big box.
I took my collection with me when I joined the Air Force. While stationed in Virginia I met a card collector and we were looking at my cards. I almost passed out when he told me how much money the cards would be worth if they would have been in mint condition. I wish now that I had taken better care of them as a kid!! :bang:
I quit collecting them years ago, but I have roughly 4,700 + cards and about 800 or 900 football cards. I have a Walter Payton card and I think it's his rookie year.
I have a baseball card that has the all-time home run leaders listed. It has a picture of the top three on the front of the card. Get this......
#1) Babe Ruth
#2) Willie Mays
#3) Henry Aaron
I know that's worth a lot of money. I will save them all and give them to my son when he gets old enough to appreciate them.
Just wondering if you collect them or have any stories that go along with yours.

I don't have many, but one of my relatives used to work for a card company and he got me some pretty cool stuff. I have a card that is signed by Andruw Jones with a tiny piece of one of his game-used bats. I'll be holding on to that one.

I used to collect cards back in the day. Quit around junior high. I always went to some local card shops to see if they had any new Wally Joyner cards (he was my favorite player), and the card shop guy would always ask me why didnt' I like someone else. I guess he couldn't make much money off of selling me some Joyner cards. Too bad kids don't like baseball cards these days. I was ashamed of my little cousin for wanting to buy pokeman or whatever the hell those cards are called. Do kids still collect baseball cards?
peace.

Sadly, no. All they want is this Pokemon and Yugioh (sp?) crap now.
