The Atlanta-Journal Constitution is reporting that we are close to signing Tim Hudson to a three-year, 33 million dollar extension to keep him in Atlanta through 2008. 04-rock

Not a done deal yet, but it looks like this is very close to becoming a reality.

Athens > Atlanta

Not that Atlanta is a bad city, but having GTU there kind of spoils it. :D

on a side note, it's looking more and more like smoltz will be the opening day starter. this would be interesting.

i'll tell you something, if smoltz has a great year he deserves to be in the hall. to go from a dominant, cy young pitcher to a dominant closer and back to a great starter would be simply amazing and unselfish.

The reason Smoltz will start on Opening Day is out of loyalty from Bobby Cox, IMO. Hudson probably would be most managers' choice, but Cox appreciates what Smoltz has done for him and the organization.

I personally think Smoltz is a Hall-of-Famer no matter what happens the rest of the way, but I agree a big year would help his chances. He's at 163 wins, and I think if he can retire with 200 he's a lock.
