You think the RIAA is bad? Bah, you ain't seen nothing.

Talk about your complete conflict of interest. These companies also provide "services" to help "protect" consumers from ID fraud. RICO anyone?

Oh, and while the free credit report "had" to be released incrementally, these companies seem to have no problem getting their add-on services made availble very quickly.

Isn't this simple approach an obvious first step: if you provide credit reporting, you cannot charge for services to correct or prevent mistakes.

Cause people are idiots. Just look at what the top searches are for on the internet. I'm just guessing but they are usually Britney Spears, XXX, and boobies, not "where'd all my money go to?" (Yeah, I ended the sentence with a preposition on purpose, for effect.)

On a side note, if you aren't taking advantage of your free credit report, I highly recommend it. Everything you've ever done financially is in there.
