Casablanca

Yeah the old one. Not that is a bad movie but I can't see why people liek it so much. Yeah its got two emeorable lines 'her's looking at you kid" and "play it again Sam" but not much else IMO..I am still nto sure waht he hell the plot was about.

I'd pass

40yr old virgin

OK...after SO MANY people tell me thsi movies was super funny I go rent it. I found it severly UNfunny. It had its moments but I found the salespeople humor to be the best part. Basically Steve Carrells charchter is a 40 yr old virgin and his freinds rag him then give all this "bad" advice on how to fix his problem..comedy ensues.

I didn't like it..I'd reccomend Anchorman

Speaking of the Frat Pack, I saw Wedding Crashers yesterday. All I heard, was funny this movie was. I thought it was ok. Some humor, wish Will Ferrell would have been utilized more. Thought the love story between Owen Wilson (what a head of hair on that guy) and Rachael McAdams was touching. Vince Vaughn was pretty funny though. Not as good as I expected, but decent nonetheless. Also thought that that weird little brother could have been funnier.

This one maybe a little out there, but I certainly enjoyed it...

The movie is called "My Big Fat Independent Movie". And it's just that, an independent movie. Only, it makes fun of tons of independent movies. I'm talking like 30-40 movies easy. I had a chance to watch it at the SideWalk Film Festival here in Birmingham and must say it was histerical. I also got the chance to interview Chris Gore, the write/producer of the film (linkage to interview). The only real reason I bring this up is because I (like last night) got my copy of it in the mail. Chris and Philip did a great job on the commentary. I was really impressed. Anyone one else see it yet?

THEATER MOVIE:

Went and saw Running Scared tongiht.

Its definatley Paul Walker's most hardest film yet. A lot of brutal violence ( both gun wise and beat down wise) and some pretty on edgey sex stuff. Teh base plot as far as I could make out is a cop raid on a Russian mafia crib goes bad and teh cops die..to protect who did waht they want to hide the murder weapon. THey enlist Paul's charchter to take care of that propblem....he does but his neighbors kid( whose dad happens to also be in the russian mafia or at leasttied to it) steasl the gun out of its hiding place and uses it shoot his dad casue his dad is abusive. Wel lthe gun goes misisng and the kid runs off.... from then on out its a find the kid and the gun before the cops or the ruskies do cause bad things will happen either way.

IF you want something disturbing I'd say check it out on the matine tip...its not quite a full pricer IMO.

BOUGHT DVD

Up the Academy

First of all I caught this movie when USA had USA UP All Night and I loved it!! It is a B movie though.

Basically the plot is a a group of mishcevious youths get sent to Military School to get set straight and each has some excentric parents. The story centers around on kid thought..Oliver. Oliver has to stay away from his girlfriend so he doesn't get her preagnant and ruin his fathers elction chances. Well the group does eend up getting busted for breaking rules..however htey blackmail the stringent Teacher to not rat them out..and to see who gets to do what they play for all the marbles at the end of year socccer game. Good fun all around.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig Vol 4

--Ghost in the Shell was a very popular Anime film. This dvd is the tv version of hte movie and more specifically the 4th volume of hte second season. This dvd is ideal for anyone who has seen the original movie OR would like a lot of plot, action, and spy stuff in a matrix themed typoe world.

Movie Theatre:

Inside Man
--Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, Willem Dafoe, and a few otehr notables.

Basically a bank robbery thriller w/ a twist. The movie goes as follows CLive Owen and his crew rob a bank and take hostages. Denzel is called in to be the Negotiator for the police. They go through the banter of negotiations. Then Jodei Foster is called by the banks owner to step in...apparently she is somekind of "handler". Her cahrachter gives a new angle on how the action is transpiring. At the end you find out the what's what of hte whole movie.

Pretty good IMO, worth full price.

A History of Violence:(rented dvd)

A good movie.... but it doesn't "end." Good rental IMO. Basic plot: Guy in small town w/ the whole wife and kid bit becomes a local hero for capping some unruly types in his restaruant. Well all the attention the media gives him pull some freinds out of the woodwork. After this I'd get into spoilers as far as the plot goes. Pretty good action and fight scenes--defaintely one Viggo's better recent movies.

King Kong (2005): (borrowed dvd)

Its not that its bad and it could also be case of running on low caffine but this movie put me to sleep. I much prefered the old 1930's one. Yeah the effects are great and yeah its pretty accurate remake but overall I just found it lacking.

Robot Chicken: ( Bought dvd)
IF you don't already know its show on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim time block of shows. THe show is basically stop motion/claymation of celebrities, people, and toys in various comedic situations. THis is a great dvd--will keep you laughing for hours. I find the better skits are of old toys and their hijinks. Defiante buy worthy.

Chronicles of Narnia; (rented dvd)
This movie tries to be Harry Potter + Lord of the Rings and it doesn't quite hit either. And honestly form what I remember of hte book being read to me in the 4th grade I have fonder memories of the book. Basic plot is thes kids, due to war time, get sent to some old dudes house. IN said house they find a magical wardrobe that transports them to Narnia. IN Narnia they find out they are the keys to overthrowing this bad aZZ White Witch. Good solid rental, but I personally don't think its a buyable one.

Vampire Hunter D ( original)( rented dvd) (ainme)
Well I still hate this movie. I rented it again just to be sure...it just puts me to sleep. Basically D is a Vampire hunter that is half vampire half human. This girl hires him to kill this dracula dude. Well he goes out to perfrom teh task... I much preferred the sequll called bloodlust. As an anime fan I'd pass on this one.

Blood: The Last Vampire (rented dvd)
From the producers of Ghost in the Shell!! Too bad this isn't as good. Basically this young girl is Vampire hunter and they hint at the fact that she might be the last Vampire herself-- but anywhoo she gets assigned to kill off these demons which she does. HTe animation and action are great but the lack of closing off the story really makes the movie not that good. I'd reccomend a pass on this as well.

I watched History of Violence last night. The gore and violence was pretty cool but overall I thought the movie was pretty lame. I thought it took way too long to develop, even the initial "hero" scene seemed like it took forever to happen. The ending totally sucked also. The bloody scenes were really good, there just wasnt enough of them for me I guess.

Has anyone seen lucky number slevin?

A girl at work said it was really good, we generally share taste in movies but I saw it got some pretty mediocre reviews. Just wanted to know what anyone who has seen it thought.

I echo your sentiments regarding Narnia Treasure. From what I remember how I felt after reading the books, that feeling was better than the feeling that I got after wathcing the movie. I mean it wasn't horrible by any stretch, it seemed to be missing something, like an extra couple pieces of flair. I mean if the minimum is all the wanted, that's fine, but I would have preferred to see more. That kid being thrust into the head of an army that quickly irritated me beyond belief.

I saw "Something the Lord Made," today. Stars Mos Def and Alan Rickman. True story of a lab technician (Mos) and a doctor (Rickman) at Johns Hopkins hospital in the 40's and 50's. They help cure infants stricken with "blue baby" syndrome. Their work was the inspiration behind the cardiac procedures done today. Pretty compelling movie. Mos' character wasn't a real doctor, but because of his work, he was given an honorary doctorate from Johns Hopkins. The movie dealt with Mos' characters race and how he had to overcome the sterotypes.

Mos Def getting a lot of acting jobs lately

Ever since that BlackStarr album dropped back in '98 he's been may favorite rapper. Now he's parlayed that success into a solid acting career. This movie though, came out a few years ago. Saw it on HBO.

I give him props for trying to do real acting roles instead of the "thug of the month" acting like Busta, Xzibit, Master P, Nelly....ect.... What I mean is most rappers that star in a movie always portray a thug of some level.

Look at Will Smith for instance...real roles.

vs Busta Rhymes: Shaft and NARC
Nelly: The Longest Yard
xzibit and Master Ps direct to video stuff... and even their studio work like gone in 60 Seconds ( Master P) and ______ w/ Jennifer Aniston that had Xzibit.

Busta was pretty cool in Finding Forrester.

Flipping thru the channels the other day, and for some reason I stopped and watched Spanglish. I was actually suprised that this was a decent movie. I didn't think Adam Sandler could ever grow up, but I'm glad he did.

I watched Silent Hill yesterday, the movie made no sense at all but it was fun to watch, If I could go back I probably wouldnt of spent the 7 bucks to see it in the theater (it was a matinee) but it is probably worth checking out once it comes out on dvd.

I never played the video games, maybe it would have made more sense if I had played the games.

I'd rather not watch that, since I spend a good amount of time in hostels. Plus I get scared easily. I'm like a little girl while watching a scary movie.

MO of Aeon Flux.

Your enjoyment of this film will be entirely dpendant upon how much you liked the cartoon show.

If you have never seen the toon version... then this movie is like The Matrix + THe Cell + Blade Runner + Minority Report.

Solid Rental IMO.. but wouldn't reccomend it as a buy.

Hostel review

ok...not all it was hyped up to be. Basically these 2 americans pal up w/ some Euro guy and are backpacking through Europe to meet HOT CHICKS..this guy htey meet tells them to go to slovokia to meet the hottest chicks. From there things are not as they seem. I won't say anymore as to not spoil the rest of the plot. Pretty decent on gore factor. Pretty good on hot chicks factor. Just an overhyped movie.... good rental IMO but not a buyable.
