Shane Power, who led Iowa State in minutes played and was the Cyclones' most versatile player, said Friday he was leaving the program.

The 6-foot-5 sophomore said he would transfer but had not decided on another school.

``I felt it was in my best interest to leave ISU and pursue other opportunities,'' Power said. ``I want to thank my teammates and wish them luck and thank the coaching staff for all of their support.''

Power is a good outside shooter and ball handler and is strong enough to play inside. He played 40 minutes in 11 games this season, averaging 37.5 minutes.

Power averaged 13.6 points and 4.5 rebounds, leading the team with 37 steals while second in ***ists with 73.

The Cyclones finished 12-19 last season after winning the Big 12 championship when Power was a freshman.

With the addition of several recruits, Iowa State is expected to improve next season and Power was being counted on a key figure in that process.

``We want players who want to be in our program,'' Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy said. ``This is part of our transition period for this team. We wish Shane the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.''

Power was one of the first players off the bench his freshman season, when he averaged 4.7 points and 3.8 rebounds and shot 50 percent from 3-point range in the Big 12.
