For years, ISU was the Big 8 / Big 12 doormat...No longer.

They are the real deal. They've been to 2 straight bowls, including last year with a freshman QB Seneca Wallace.

Look for them to be in the Top 25 before this year is over.

Any thoughts?

I think you're right on. I think ISU is definately coming in under the radar of a lot of people this year.

Quite honestly, I'd like to keep it that way. Let's catch some of these "pundits" off guard and show them the talent that we have quietly built this year.

I think the Holiday Bowl is about the best we can hope for this year, I do think we will gain an even better reward: credibility and respect. I would expect to see Iowa State in the Top 25 by mid season, and stay there consistently during McCarney's tenure.

I agree that Iowa State has definately surpassed the previously known staple of "doormat" of the Big 8 and now the Big 12. Looking at the upcoming season schedule though I am very skeptical that a top 25 ranking is a realistic possibility. In my heart top 25 is there!!! But factoring in my more educated prediction....... well I just don't see it this year. But keep it going ISU!!! We are slowly on our way.

Welcome to both ISUKSig and Cycloneksigma! Glad to have you here.

Iowa State should be good this year, but there are some tough teams in the Big 12. I guess a top 25 ranking depends on how well they finish the last couple games of the season.

A shot? Yes. Will it happen, I don't think so. I am just really fired up that we're going head to head with such a high-profile program. This is the kind of experience and exposure our team needs. I think this is one of those things that may not have an immediate pay-off with a big win, but we will be seeing the fruits later in the season or next year.

With Billups moving to the D-Backfield I think it's going to make it even more exciting!
