My fiance' and I are getting married on Oct. 6 of this year and I'm trying to put together our honeymoon stuff right now. There is so much stuff out there, so I was gonna see if anyone on here had anywhere they would recommend for a great honeymoon. So far, the places we are looking are (in no particular order): Hawaii (any of the islands, possibly close to Poipu Beach in Kauai), Cabo San Lucas (or San Jose del Cabo), St. Lucia and anywhere else in the Carribbean that is somewhat affordable. We don't want a HUGE sky-scraper condo or huge resort. I've been looking at a lot of bed and breakfasts (recommended to me by a family friend), but not really sure if they are a reliable option. We are on a limited budget (as many young couples are), so if the only place you have to recommend is the Ritz Carlton or huge all-inclusive resorts, I'll just go ahead and let you know that I can't afford it. If you've got any info, let me know. Every little bit helps.

Imo, all-inclusive is the way to go.....if you go to a smaller, less expensive resort, you could possibly wind up making up the difference in cost once you've eaten & drank for a week.

if you're looking for smaller settings, maybe check out the couples resorts in the caribbean? we went to sandals in jamaica, and had a fabulous time, but it wasn't small.

however, since you're getting married in the fall, like we did, it's not crowded at all...you get the benefits of the large resorts without the large # of people fighting for beach space, tables @ dinner, etc.

We spent a week in Hawaii for our honeymoon in July. We had a package from a travel agency where we had some days where we did things with a tour group and some days we were on our own. It was great. We spent most of our time in Waikiki (Honolulu), and spent a day on Big Island and a day in Maui.
Maui was our favorite and if (when) we go back we'll spend most of our time there.

What travel agent (agency) did you use and what type of fees did they charge? If you had to do it over, would you use an agent again?

We really really looked at some of the all inclusive places......until we discovered that the only setting that really looked good with my fiance's engagement ring are duel canary yellow diamond eternity bands

We're going back for a week in Panama City Beach. It's where we got engaged, it's been kind of "our place" since we started dating, and Mr Conway has agreed to pay for the whole thing, right SC? ;-)

Oh, one thing you do want to consider.....my fiance just informed me that October is the tail end of hurricane season in the Caribbean....though apparently Sandals does have a rain check policy for that.

We looked at Sandals, which has some AWESOME resorts, and the LeBlanc spa in Cancun, which is also very very nice.

Yeah, that's one thing we've had to consider. That's why we added Hawaii and Cabo in there.

it's definitely something to consider...ours had to be postponed until January (which i guess makes my whole "not crowded in the fall" statement moot....sorry - i had actually forgotten about that!)

but going in January was nice, too....we weren't so exhausted from everything that we were able to enjoy more of the resort.

My mother-in-law is a travel agent, so we used her company in Dallas. It was part of a tour package for $1650, and we got hotel discounts as part of the package. If I did it again I might have gone the all-inclusive route, but we did end up finding some hole in the wall type places that had good food. You should look at how much structure you want. We largely had either a whole afternoon or a whole morning free, but some days were completely planned out.

Congrats. My wife and I went to Cap Juluca on Anguilla, BWI. I would HIGHLY recommend it as a honeymoon locale. Anguilla is beautiful, not overly developed and a mere ferry ride from St. Maarten and its shopping.

Make sure to take in plenty of fluids and electrolytes. You don't want to get dehydrated during the honeymoon. :kobe:

All-inclusive is definitely the way to go.

My personal recommendation would be the Moon Palace in Cancun. We went there for our honeymoon, and again for our 5th anniversary. An absolute blast, and you never have to leave the resort.

- 10 minutes from the airport
- seven or eight restaurants on site
- "sports bar" (actually, just 15 or so flat screen TVs and a real-life sports book on site)
- two huge pools
- jacuzzi in every room
- minibar in every room (yup, all inclusive)

We booked our first trip through Delta Vacations, but this one we did directly with the hotel (Palace Resorts).

St. John is wonderful. None of the hustle and bustle touristy stuff of St. Thomas, but easily accessible by ferry if you want to spend an afternoon there. We rented a condo in one of the secluded coves on the island, and rented a jeep for the week. It was cool to be able to travel the whole island without being on a schedule, finding most beaches with only a few people when you leave the main areas (and there are a lot of them). Food was great and fairly affordable with a very relaxing atmosphere.

Edit: One more thing....Conway is working with a travel agency these days. Tell him to get you a deal......

Congrats! I am getting married Oct. 26. No honeymoon yet due to it being a destination wedding. But my sister and brother-in-law have gone to Jamaica and other places, but Playa Del Carmen was their recommendation. As a matter of fact, sitting at the pool at the apt. this summer, a couple was talking about how great it was as well. You may want to check that out. Chi- What do you know about St. Thomas? I think we may have narrowed down our choices after seeing this place and getting a great recommendation to it: HarmonySuite - St. Thomas. BUT, I want to make sure that the island as a whole is not WAY too touristy (i.e. we can go to the beach and not have to worry about fighting for a spot and having 200 people within 40 yards). The good thing about this place is that they can set up everything for you in advance (jeep rental, excursions, days at spa), breakfast is included, they provide stuff to make "sack lunches" for the beach, and the whole property is private (you're the only one that has access to the jacuzzi and pool) all without it being a HUGE all-inclusive resort where you end up paying for things you don't end up even using. What's your overall opinion of St. T? We're not 100% final yet, but from her reaction when she saw the place, I am pretty sure that it's where SHE really wants to end up going.

St. Thomas is very touristy although this place may be the place for you. The first thing I did was check it's location in relation Charlotte Amalie, which is where the throngs go for the attractions (shopping, cruise ships docking, etc.). C.A. is the main port for St. Thomas so as long as you are away from there it looks like you would be fine. Plus, as the site says, St. John (Trunk Bay....or any number of other bays) is a short ferry ride away. Looks pretty sweet......
