Michael Antonescu (OL, Ridgeland, MS) - Michael went to his mother's grave this afternoon to do a little praying about where he wanted to spend his next four to five years.


"Earlier today, I drove down to Greenwood (MS), and with the guidance from my mother, I choose to play with Memphis. I plan on signing with Memphis on Wednesday," added the articulate Michael Antonescu.

The 6' 3", 285 pounder further explained why he choose Memphis.

"I feel like it is the closest thing to home. I like all of the guys there. Me and Mathew Malouf, Turner West, and Dallas Walker all hung out while I was on my official visit. We just clicked. Everybody in Conference USA can offer you early playing time, grades, and academics, but what separates Memphis is their staff. Even though they lost a couple of their assistants to UAB, they have the best staff in Conference USA. They are also bringing in the talent it takes to win year in and year out. I am just ready to join the fun."

There was also another motivation in Michael's decision.

"I always wanted to stay inside Mississippi, but when they did not want me, it put a chip on my shoulder. I get to play Ole Miss, MSU, and USM every year now. That is another reason I am excited to play for Memphis. I want to show them what they are missing."

Antonescu was offered by Tulane, USM, Marshall, UAB, and Memphis before choosing the Tigers.

He was named as one of the Top 25 Most Wanted Recruits in the State of Mississippi by the Clarion Ledger and made 1st Team All-State, Conference, and Division.

Michael carries a 3.7 GPA / 24 ACT

You guys are getting a great prospect and even better young man. Comes from a big Ole Miss family and regretably, we didn't have room for him. Best of luck to Michael and his new home.

I am really excited about this commitment. High human quality like this can never be overestimated.

If we can round out the next couple of days with Cam Baker, Rod Davis, Dorian Davis, and one quality DL (not sure who that would be), then this is a good class.

Congrats, guys...super get and from all I've heard a top notch young man. I don't know anybody that's not rooting for this kid. Besides supposedly being a great kid, strong work ethic, smart, etc... I also hear he's a strong one with a nasty streak in the trenches.

Thanks. I guess this would also confirm the strong class for Ole Miss if they did not have the scholarship room for good one like young Mr. Antonescu.
