NTR - Cannon Smith reopens recruitment
Looks like he's decided to leave town. Probably a good move for him. Miami or Hawaii? Talk about a change of scenery....

He's been pretty much set with Miami for a couple of weeks. I'm excited for him.

I think he is wise to get away to a place his father is not a household name. Let him make it on his own merit. He might suprise some people and turn out to be a pretty good ball player if allowed to mature as Cannon Smith, not Fred Smith's son.

The latest Miami recruiting update in the Miami Herald, a couple of days ago, has Miami in good position to land QB Robert Marve of Tampa Plant HS, a 5-star:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/spo...562897.htm

Alabama, where he was previously committed, has taken away Miami's previous QB recruit, Nick Fanuzzi of San Antonio, TX Churchill. Cannon is not listed on the QB prospects list on their Scout site.

Because of the coaching change there, Shannon and his staff, which is still not complete, are scrambling to try to keep their small commit list and get back in it with a number of other prominent Florida prospects. Craig Cooper is still going there from prep school, but they just lost 5-star DB Major Wright to Florida today. Florida is really reeling them in this year.

I am sorry it had to come to this. But, events, even what may be small events at the time, in people's lives, can be major factors in reality.

I'm guessing Tommy has cut ties with him since he's not even mentioning us anymore.

I would guess that's a very safe bet.

Maybe part of the plea agreement is that he does leave the area. I would think he would have a better chance at playing and having success at Hawaii under June Jones offense. I said earlier that I doubted he would ever play for Ole Miss.

Hey, we were about to have an opening at the holder position. Now we're going to have to go out and recruit another one. In all honesty, had he really decided to come to Ole - Miss, he'd redshirt in 2007, and then play behind Snead, Davis, or Herrick in 2008, 2009, and 2010. The best he'd have been able to realistically hope for is that we didn't find a better QB by his 5th year giving him a shot to play in 2011. He may end up getting his chance somewhere else, but I just think he'd have probably been the 4th QB at Ole - Miss for a while.
