Wade Bonner coming for a visit?
I was just cruising threw Scout.com & Wade Bonner is listed as a soft verbal to Miss St. He's scheduled for a visit with us 1-26-07. He would be a great pick-up. I am really getting excited. This could really be a good recruiting class for Tommy if everything falls into place. Yet still, back to Bonner, I thought he was sold on Miss St.. Does anyone know what may have happened, if this story is true?

Maybe someone will talk to you about this. I have brought it up a couple of times and no takers.

Miss State hasn't backed off of Bonner. Scout & Rivals list anyone as a "soft" verbal if they've committed to someone but they still continue to take visits. Bonner would definitely be a good pickup and there's always a surprise or 2 on signing day.

Why b/c I'm a realist? Which recruiting class lately have you been impressed with? I know that will be hard to answer since every one of them in the last 5 years has been 'The best class we've ever had' according to TW.
Every year is the same. We don't hear anything during the recruiting season. The happy clappers claim TW has some secret weapons that we don't want to announce yet so that the BCS schools don't steal them. Then we get the official announcement that we beat out mostly Arky St, MTSU and Western Kentucky. :shhh:

unfortunately when it comes to football recruiting Denver is dead on. It has been atrocious for several years now and there is no way to put lipstick on that pig. I am optimistic though, lets see what happens this year.

DT and JT
DT and Joe Tiger, While we have not seen the results on the field, the Tigers are only recruiting a few kids that MTSU and ASU want. Mostly, it appears we are recruiting against other C-USA teams for players. I believe two years ago Tommy signed 9 kids that had BCS teams in the final two choices. He is far and away a better recruiter than Rip Scherer.
I understand the frustration though

Don't let the facts get in the way. Here are the facts: If you take the average ranking of our recruiting from Scout for the last three years and compare it to all other CUSA schools we rank first in recruiting. We are signing many kids who have been offered by BCS schools and CUSA schools. We are getting very few who only have Ark ST, MTSU.

exactly - - and a lot of those recruits have yet to make a contribution due to red shirting (which will benefit the program in the long run)
the talent on this team is much better than they performed last season...
there was a lot more that contribruted to last seasons record than lack of talent...
we are not in a position to go out and recruit the number 1-10 player at every position like a USC or Notre Dame or Florida can...but we are and have been recruiting players who are/were offered by BCS schools
I believe if you look back on our recruiting over the last 5-10 years you will see that the caliber of player (according to recruiting services) has actually improved...we are regularly competing against BCS schools for most of our recruits...

Well I hope your right and the results begin to show it. Good recruiting is the lifeblood of any college team.

Do you guys sometimes think that as Tiger fans, when we sign FB players we tend to think they may not be all that great BECAUSE they signed with us?
that we doubt their ability because...hey, they signed with Memphis?
...like "ok, what's wrong with them?" or "how will they let us down?"
Just curious...

it's gonna take alot to get high profile hs kids to commit to C-USA
I would think most of these kids are thinking their going on to the NFL. If you look at the numbers there are 337 SEC players in the NFL and only 84 C-USA players. If you're a hot shot recruit where are you going to look first?

Regarding Charlie Bryant - I spoke with his father and he stated Charlie had been moved to left tackle and had achieved the playing weight the coaches wanted during his red shirt year. He said Charlie was 6'8" and 300 lbs.

Perceptions can be changed. I remember when people thought Florida, FSU and Miami would never be competitive in football.

If you're good enough, the NFL will know about you and take you regardless of what conference you played in. In fact, more playing time in C-USA is better than standing on the sidelines in one of the BCS conferences.
